Show ON THE HOME FRONT LAUNCHING A SHIP at DENVEf , COLORAD - In a dramatic demonstration that there are no geographical limitations on the contribution that can be made by the mountain moun-tain states to war production, a ship a navy escort vessel was "launched1' from inland, niile- high Denver last week. . The launching and christening ceremony was attended by Gov. Ralph L. Carr of Denver and other oth-er notables i n civilian and military mil-itary life. Altho the ''launched" vessel was, in reality, a group of freight cars carrying fabricated parts for ship hulls to the Mare Island Navy .Yard in California the ceremonies were as impressive impres-sive and real as tho- the ship were actually being put to sea. The ship parts were fabricated in Denver by eight firms who obtained ob-tained large contracts for the work thru the cooperation of the contract distribution branch of the war ' production board. On the day of the launching, announcement announce-ment was made that the work of fabricating ships in the Rocky Mountain West is going to be vastly extended and will assume the proportions of a major industry. indus-try. The unique acheivement of carrying car-rying on ship-building operations in mountain country more than 1,000 miles from an ocean was hailed by officials as "an inspiring inspir-ing example" of American ingenuity ingen-uity and enterprise.
