Show COMMENTS' A LIVELY GHOST I The pay-as-you-go tax plan just naturally doesn't die. Appanently the backfire from taxpayers over the country Tias been terrific since the bill was shelved by the House. A letter to the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee Com-mittee has just been published and expresses ideas that seem to be general over the country. In part, it says: "Sentiment throughout the country, as demonstrated beyond doubt, is behind such a plan and Congrass must eventually even-tually so recognize .... .1 can speak somewhat feelingly on this subject because I am chairman of the War Savings Committee Com-mittee of my town. I have a splendid group of fellow workers work-ers and we are already organized to do our best . . But it is m.ghty hard to do that best when the Treasury Department, Depart-ment, at the same time when it launches the greatest bond campaign m history, opposes the one method of taxatiun which will do the most to make a campaign a success " Apparently the 40,000,000 citizens will be hasessed by uncertainty about their tax obligations for some time longer since the rate of withholding as well as the date of its-bcein-- ning, both still remain to be fixed by law |
