Show Granite Furniture, Sperry Seniors Win Feature Gage Tussles Three Extra Period Games Steal Spotlight in Junior League Referees, coaches, and players were worn out Saturday when three games ended in knotted scores, and several others ended with only a few points difference. St. Paul's and Bryan Seniors started the day out with a final score of 18-18. The extra period saw St. Paul's walk off with a 20-18 victory. Bob Glasscock of Bryan Seniors was the high scorer scor-er of the game with 8 points. Sperry Seniors practically wound up their season with a victory over Andrus Livestock in another extra period fray. The Sperry clan, coached by Don Sperry, captured the junior title last year and a win this Saturday will give them the laurels in the 1941 senior race. The Andrus-Sperry game was a defensive game from beginning to end. Both teams relied on strong zone defenses and the final score was only a 12-12. In the extra period, Harry Smith calmly tossed a field goal for the close 14-12 triumph. Players Play-ers on both teams turned in excellent ex-cellent performances, although both squads were sadly "off" in their shooting. Granite Furniture finished on top of the next extra period thriller. The Furniture quintet got off to a bad start, letting the Highland Park team score eight points on fast breaks; the half time score was 12-6 for Highland Park. The hard fighting number num-ber "O", Merrill Davis, led the Granite boys back into a hard second half rally which brought the score to a final 14-14. In the extra period, Dick Pettey sewed up the battle with two foul' tosses. Kennie Higgins did some beautiful beauti-ful ball handling, Carl Paulson split the strings for two all important im-portant field goals," and and Lee Petty some nice defensive bah for the winners. Allen Cornwall again was the outstanding man for the losing Hylanders with 8 ry's Garage, and Sperry Juniors. These teams will play off for the first half honors at a later time, probably at the end of the eason Sperry Seniors already have all but clinched the senior crown. Teams are now looking for the selections of the annual "All Star" teams which will be published pub-lished in The Bulletin. Bracket B: Southeast, Bryan, Monarchs, and Dodgers. best ball for Southeast while Mulvay and Roylance had a real scoring spree with 23 and 12 points respectively for Wasatch. Oliver and Saul with 22 and 16 points topped the strong offensive Sperry machine while Roland Williams slipped in 6 counters for the Monarchs. Despite the 57-15 score, the Monarchs were the most popular team of Saturday's Satur-day's play. Pearson, Wolley, Harmon, Har-mon, and Harr dribbled through, around, and by the larger Sperry team. Despite their size, the Monarchs are going to be real ball players in a few years. Pearson Pear-son and Harr, especially, were so deceptive that they went just where they wanted to go in Saturday's Sat-urday's scrap. Season Draws to a Close The Junior Division is now at the end of its first half. Three teams are on top for first half honors: Granite Furniture, Har- tallies. Blakemore Leads Hawthorne to Surprise Win Don Blakemore hit the metal loop eight times to lead his Hawthorne Haw-thorne five to an upset over Aposhian Garage. The Garage five couldn't begin to keep pace with this 80 per cent shooting average. Clarke of Hawthorne clicked for 8 points while Arslan-ian Arslan-ian and Park were top scorers for the losers. Hawthorne carried car-ried a 19-9 advantage at the half but were on top by only 27-25 when the final whistle sounded. Harry's Garage Stage Last Half Rally The Dodgers almost scared Harry's Garage right out of the title picture when they absolutely blanked their opponents 8-0 during dur-ing the first half. The Dodgers followed the ball and stuck to their men like glue during the first half but in the last two periods per-iods their larger opponents tired them out and they slid to a 16-8 loss. Bob Walton and Dodge each connected for 8 points during dur-ing the last half. ' Averett and Davis each pocketed two field the day found Parleys blocking goals in their first half stride. The "willy-nilly" game of the day found Parleys blocking Bryan 10-6. Neither team did much of anything but run up and dawn the floor for the fun of it.
