Show Preparedness Personel Requisition No. 6 Preparedness Personal Requis-tion Requis-tion No. 6, recently released by the Secretary of War, has justi been received at the Army re- cruiting headquarters in Salt Lake City, it was reported today! in a special news bulletin from the office of Colonel B. E. Grey in the Ness Building; the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain headquarters for Army i recruiting activities. By far the largest foreign service ser-vice order received in many months, the Requisition placed I a quota of 330 men for immediate enlistment for the Philippines Department, and limited the time in which these enlistments were to be procured to the month of February, Colonel Grey's bulleti' stated. In explaining the large quota, Colonel Grey has been informed from the War Department sources sourc-es that this requisition constitut-edan constitut-edan increase in the enlisted j strength of U S troops in the Philippines, and that the 330 men enlisted under this quota would be about equally apportioned to three combat units long-established in these Islands. The break down of this ultimate distribution distribu-tion of men will be about as follows; fol-lows; 130 to be assigned to the 31st U S Infantry stationed at the Post of Manila; 100 to be assigned as-signed to the 59th Coast Artillery with Batteries at Fort Drum". Fort Hughes and Fort Mills; and 100 to be assigned to the filth Coast Artillery garrisoned at Fort Mills. The Coast Artillery units named constitute a major portion of the harbor defenses of Manila and Subic Bay. Voluntary enlistments for a5 three-vear term only will be made in filling this quota, and those enlisted will be shipped from Salt Lake City in time to arrive at Fort McDowell, California, not later than February 28th. Four davs later, on March 4th, this Phillippine contingent of newly enlisted Armv troops will clear the Port of San Francisco aboard the U. S. Armv Transport "Republic" "Re-public" which has been orded by the War Department to make an off-schedule trip for this purpose. |
