Show SUGAR' HOUSE LEGIONAIRES WILL REGISTER Local Men to do Their Bit in Defense Move; Sugar House Post 65 in Charge in .Southeast Special Hours Arranged for Working Men 3 Cooperating one hundred per cent with the National Defense Plan and National Defense Week, members of the Sugar House Post 65 of the American Legion will register next at offices especially espec-ially set up in Sugar House for registrants, according to Clilford Husbands, post comnmander. The offices are located at 2126 South Eleventh East street and have been donated for the registration re-gistration by.N. J. Hansen. Samuel Sam-uel Nicholes will be in charge of i the registration and it will be jheld daily from February 17 to 22, inclusive. Hours the office J will remain open are from 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. Mr. Nicholes will be assisted by other members of I the post in the registration work. I This registration is part of a plan worked out by the government govern-ment in which Legionaires are asked to register their present lability to give aid if called for national defense. They will fill in a questionaire. Mr. Husbands stated, that will not obligate them in any way detramental to their positions but the government govern-ment wishes to have on file all former World War Veterans who may be qualified to aid in an emergency. It is the government's plan to swear these men in as aids in ferriting out any subversive activities, acti-vities, and to use them for other governmental work that will insure in-sure greater safety in the United States. It is not to be a compelling com-pelling registration but one of volunteer services. Explains Work to C. of C. Commander Husbands explained some of the plans that would be followed in this registration of Legionaires to members of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce Com-merce last Wednesday noon at the monthly meeting of the group. Sugar House Post Grows in Membership Although less than a year old, the Sugar House Post 65 of the American Legion has grown to a membership of 120. according to Commander Husbands,, and the members have given their wholehearted whole-hearted support in many community com-munity enterprises of benefit to Sugar House. The present project under way is to construct a large auditorium and recreation center on the city owned property at the rear of the new Sugar House post office building and as soon as some technical matters are settled, the men will go to work on the construction. con-struction. Legion Meets Twice Monthly To keep up activities, the Legion Le-gion meets the Second and Fourth Four-th Thursday in each month at the I. O. O. F. Hall, 2040'i South Eleventh East street. A meeting of interest was held last Thursday evening when Otto Wessley, present chairman of the bers. Mr. Wessley is past De-Boy's De-Boy's State, addressed the mem-partmental mem-partmental Commander and jvist National Committeeman of the Legion. Mr. Wessley's talk deiilt with the value of the Boy's State in the lives of the boys and how. it prepares them for good citizens. Charles A. Smith, state chair-, man of Americanization, gave an interesting account of matters that pertain to his work. . . |
