HI) 4-05- 23 Soulheast Hi-lig- hts Mr. and Mrs. Ottis L, Blair, 3127 South 20th East, and daughters Edna and Colleen, visited Mrs. Blair's son, Keith Rhodes, last week at Roodhouse, Illinois. Miss Verda Rasmussen of 1265 Kensington Ave. spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. Lou Hansen, at Payson, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin B. Mit-chell and children, Julia Ann and Jimmie, of 2027 Lambourne Ave., have just returned from a vacation trip which took them to Portland and Seattle. While in Seattle they attended Sea -- Fair Week. Both the Pacific and the Canadian fleet sailed into the harbor for this celebration. Bob Hope entertained at the Gold Cup Races held at Seattle. The Mitchells also sailed on a luxury liner to Victoria, B. C. Mrs. Vesta R. Lee and daugh-ters Shelley and Gayle, have just returned from a lovely vacation visiting relatives and friends in the Los Angeles area and in Phoe-nix, Arizona. Miss Ann Kidd is off on an ex-tended trip to Washington, D. C Virginia, and North Carolina. She will spend part of her vacation visiting her family in Harrison-burg, Virginia. Capt. Leslie G. Nash and his family are guests this month of his mother, Mrs. G. S. Nash, 1632 Wasatch Drive. He was pre-viously stationed at the College Air Force Base at Montgomery, Alabama, and is soon on his way to a new assignment in Tokyo. Miss Mary Louise Gilmer has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Gilmer, in Elko, Nevada. They attended the open-ing of the New Frontier Room in the Commercial Hotel, which has on display paintings featuring the gunfighters of the Old West. Mrs. Michael Delia of 3245 Del Verde Ave.and children, Dar-len- e, Joseph, Dorene, Thomas, and Patrick were called to Butte, Mon-tana because of the brief illness and death of her father, Joseph Dal Porto, popular Butte miner. They left July 31st and returned l to Salt Lake City on August 10th. .TOA K At Staff Photos. ToIman Inc. Opens New Studios The Independent joins with the people of the Sugar House area in welcoming Ruth Tolman, Inc. to the business section of our community. Miss Tolman and her staff of instructors will be on hand Thursday, Friday, and Sat-urday of this week for the open house and fashion shows at the new Salon 1049 12 East 21st South. For many years Miss Tolman has conducted a very fine school at 731 .East South Temple where courses in personal charm, figure control, modeling, fashions, cos-metics and other related subjects are taught. This finishing school will continue under Miss Tolman's direction. Margaret Beall will be the Manager of the Sugar House Salon. The famous TOPPER line of passive exercise units will be featured and the Salon will carry the KARDEE line of cosmetics. Group of ladies awaiting personal interview. Artists to Exhibit At State Fair Utah artists, both professional and amateur, will have an oppor-tunity to exhibit their work and compete for cash awards during the Utah State Fair, Sept. 11-2- 0. Mr. H. Reuben Reynolds. of Logan, Arts Division Director, announced that all works of art be delivered to the Arts Bldg. at the Fairgrounds on Thursday, Aug. 27th, betwee n 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. He emphasized that exhibits will be accepted on these two days only. Entries are open to all Utah ar-tists who are residents, resident students, or native bonuThemax-imu- m size limit for all paintings and mosaic art is not to exceed 48 inches in its largest dimension, including the frame. The smallest framed size limit accepted will be 8 by 10 inches. Wm. Peffer Marries Ogden Girl William E. Peffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott S. Seaman, and Miss Sharon Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Allen of Ogden were married on Sat-urday, August 8th, at the LDS 33 rd Ward Hall in Ogden. |
