Show Approximately 1U00 girls will join the entrance, precision and dance marching. The Review is a display rather than a competitive event. Pep Clubs will wear their official school uniform and each school will carry its own banner. The colorful exhibition will be held at 1 p.m. April 23, opening the afternoon session of the track and field meet. BYU Hosts Trade, Pepsters Athletes from nearly every community in Utah will head for Provo next week when Brigham Young University stages its 47th annual Invitational Track and Field Meet in Cougar Stadium. Junior high school, high school and junior college performers from Utah and five other western states will participate in the Beehive Bee-hive classic which is scheduled for April 21-22-23. "This year's meet should be about the largest we have ever, had," stated Edwin R.Kimball, R.Kim-ball, the Invitational chairman, 'and we have had some large ones in the past." It's not uncommon to have over 2,000 athletes performing in the three-day meet, Kimball pointed out. Although the Invitational, which was begun nearly lalfa century ago by the late Eugene "Timpanogos' Roberts, was a track and field meet in its beginning, it has been expanded to include other areas. ' In 1953 the meu added to its program the colorful Girls' Pep Clubs on Review. This event, which features the. precision marching units from various high schools, highlights the Saturday afternoon program. Over 1000 girls take part in the huge drill on the BYU football field. Last year, meet officials expanded ex-panded the program to include high school golf. Class A and B high schools compete in two divisions div-isions with the tee off scheduled for Saturday morning on the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos course. Tennis also attracts a large number of participants to the new courts at BYU. Junior high school competition is scheduled' for Thursday high school and junior college on Friday and Saturday. 'PEP CLUBS ON REVIEW" "Pep Clubs on Review." an annual feature of the Brigham Young University Invitational Track and Field Meet, will again attract precision units from 15 Utah high schools in addition to the Grand Junction (Colo.) High School marching unit. Miss Lulu Wallace, instructor in women's physical education at' BYU and director of the 1960 Review, Re-view, announced the list of participating part-icipating s:hools Saturday, Local high schools invited to perform per-form are Wes't High School, directed by Beverly , Pitman; Olympus, Shirley Allen; "East, Nena Hawkes; Murray, Rita Howells; ' and Granite, Alta Christensen. |
