Marilyn expects to stay and attend school in Sweden in the fall other members of the. family will return in two montfla ColonialHillsWard Bishopric Changed A new bishop was named rec-ently for the Colonial Hills Ward in the Hillside Stake of the LDS Church. New bishop is George F. Park-er with Jack C. Grosebeck, first counselor, and Clarence Watson, second counselor. Owen G. Jarvis, Stanley L. Allen and G. E. Broschinsky are clerks. Pres. Eisenhower Presents Award To Salt Lake Girl Meeting the President of the United States and receiving an award all in the same day was the good fortune last week of a Judge Memorial High School girl. Sharon Garrett received an rd last Thursday from Presi-dent Eisenhower for her prize-winni- ng essay on Problems of the Physicially handicapped. The award was presented at a meeting of the President's Com-mittee on the Employment of tre Physically Handicapped in Washington, D.C. Miss Garrett was accompanied on her trip by Mrs. Emily Smith Stewart of Salt Lake City, Utah representative on the President's committee. r' ' 'J Memory House - Open House Honor Haslams Golden Wedding em California from 1947 to 1948. Here Mr. Haslam used his talents as a contractor to assist in the building of several chapels in the mission. His lifes work as a general contractor has given him the honor of building many churches and schools in Utah. At present he is a member of the Holladay Zoning Committee, a past president of the Holla-da- y Lions Club, and a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. The couple ask that no gifts be brought to open house. Light refreshments and a program will provide entertainment as the Haslams greet their many friends. They have lived in their pre-sent home for 43 years. An open house to be held in the Memorial House in Memory Grove, Wednesday, June 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. will mark the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Haslam, 4212 High-land Drive. The couple was married in a June 5, 1907 ceremony which was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They are the parents of three children, LeGrand Haslam, Mrs. Preston C. (Gladys) Kimball, Mrs. JJames (Evelyn) Day, and 12 grandchildren and two great grand children. Always active in their church the Haslams have held many of-fices in the Winder Ward includ-ing fulfilling a mission in north- - Mr. and Mrs. Horace A. Soren-se- n, 2998 Connor St., enplaned Monday evening for Pennsylvania. Among sights to be visited is the famed Williamsburg. They will return June 6. Calvin Sorensen just returned from a trip to the Carpets In-stitute Council in New York. Dinner Party A dinner was held at the home of Mrs. Richard Holbrook last Saturday night. It was budget dinner held to help build the Butler Ward. ' Those who atten-ded were: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Griffiths, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Oviatt, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Campbell. These couples meet every other month at the home of one couple for a budget din-ner, and enjoy the company of friends. Mrs. Henry S. Nygaard is spending a couple of days in Las Vegas. Rest and relaxation is the theme of their stay, and they plan to be back about Mem-orial Day. Orson H. Pratt took a short trip to Las Vegas to go boating Saturday last. He went with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Timmerman, and Mr and Mrs. Wayne Black. They planned on meeting other friends while there, for water sking on Lake Mead, They will return this week. The boat belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Lee, and I under-stand that it is really a beauti-ful new craft. Butler Ward Holds Variety Roundup The Butler Ward of the East Jordan Stake, LDS Church, held a variety entertainment roundup last week to raise funds for its building fund. The program was held in the Butler School under the direction of Phyllis Harro, ward Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association activity counselor, and Donna Watts, music director. Seminary Graduation Thirty-si- x LDS seminary stu-dents received diplomas Sunday at South High School. Seven four-ye-ar certificates also were presented. President Bishop Joseph L. Wirthlin has been assigned as the visiting general authority for the Monument Park Stake con-ference Saturday and Sunday. Take your wife out of , the KITCHEN at least ONE night a week.
