MMi I Mrs. Genevieve Curtis, prominent in school, civic and church af-fairs and mother of outstanding city businessmen, was named as the nominee of Salt Lake "Mother of the Year," Special Services Mark Lenten Season The Lenten season began Wed-nesday with special services in many churches including the Holla-da- y Community Church which held the second annual Lenten Study series beginning with Ash Wed-nesday. A Communion service was held at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1070 Foothill Dr., and Tabor Lutheran Church will fea-ture a series of mid-wee- k family 'services. The Lenten services were held at the Redeemer Luther-an Church at 1955 E. Stratford Avenue. Democratic Women To Be Feted The Women's Division of the Democratic State Committee will honor the four Democratic women members of the Utah State Leg-islature at a reception, Saturday, March 9, it was announced by Roxey S. Romney, democratic na-tional committeewoman. The gala party will be held at the Crystal Ball room in the New-hou- se Hotel from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Romney and Mrs, Gene-vieve Gardner are in charge of the arrangements. A banquet will be held in the evening sponsored by the Young Democratic organization. Business Women Organize New Club A new Utah Business and Pro-fessional Women's Club was or-ganized this weekf according to Mrs Marcella Finlay, state mem-bership chairman. The new group, Avhich will be known as the Mt. Olympus Club met under the spon-sorship of the Sugar House Busi-ness and Professional Women's Clubs, at Forest Hills Cafe, Fri-day, March 1st. Assisting in organizing the new club were Ada Burtf state presi-dent and Mrs Iva Barrows, direc-to- r of the Utah Federation of B&PW Clubs. Also Mrs, H. A. El-ton, membership chairman of the Sugar House group and Mrs. Finlay. Officers elected were Mrs. J, R. Baird, president; Mrs. Helen John-so- nf vice president; Mrs. L. E. Smack, recording secretary; Miss Dorene Lloyd, corresponding secre-tary and Mrs. Reba Fitch, treasur-er. Meetings have been scheduled for the second Thursday of each month. Rummage Sale Sponsored For U.N. The Sixth Annual Community Rummage Sale sponsored by the Utah Association for the United Nations will be held March 7, 8 and 9 at 115 South Main Street in I Salt Lake City, according to Mrs. Bryce J. Fairbanks and Mr. Obert C. Tanner, en of the event A new feature of this year's event will be a pre-sa- le auction of special merchandise to be held at the same address from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 6 under the direction of Mrs. A. Q. Howard. Items to be auctioned may be viewed in ad-vance from noon until 4 p.m. L. H. Kirkpatrick, University of Utah librarian and chairman of the Utah Association for the UN, Rolf Peter, son, radio-televisi- on personality, and H. F. Kretchman, Salt Lake Tribune editorial writer, will serve as auctioneers. Although held in Salt Lake City each year, the sale is a statewide project. Rummage is collected by UN chapters in Logan, Ogden and Provo for the event. In the Salt Lake area, some 35 civic groups and women's organizations are participating. Troceeds are used primarily for fostering United Nations interest and understanding among young people. Most important single project is the statewide high school Model UN Assembly held in the spring on the University of Utah campusf an idea begun in Utah three years ago that has since re-ceived much national recognition and is now copied in many states. Church Plan Canvass of Sugar House Area A comparative newcomer to the southeast area, the Highland Baptist Church, is making itself well known. Church members will spend Sun-day, March 10, canvassing the area in a religious census. Under the general chairmanship of Ed Herzogr, members will cover a dis-trict within a twelve-bloc- k radius of the church at 1734 East 2100 South. Ten men and women have been assigned specific districts. The group will meet for lunch immedi-ately after Sunday morning church services, before beginning the canvass. Questions asked of southeast residents will include name and address, how many persons in family, church affiliation, if any, and church activity The census is part of an overall program being conducted by the Salt Lake Valley Association of Baptist Churches.
