' ; ... . ; V'Jt . , v7 Melvin Stevens Holladay Planning 'Eve' Celebration Holladay is making plans now of its giant "Holladay Eve" cele-bration August 2. Festivities, according to a pro-gram laid out recently at a meeting of the Holladay Com-mercial Club, will include a double queen contest, promotions in all stores and a carnival. Two queensone representing the "teens" and one for the "tweens"-w- ill be named. Car-nival booths and rides will be set up in the main business sec-tion and valuable prizes will be given away. At the Commercial Club meet-ing, committee heads were named to push action on the plans, ac-cording to Melvin J. Stevens, president. i 1 I Mrs. Carman Attends Regional Conflab Of Citizens' Council Mrs. Frank C. Carman, 2480 Walkers Lane, was one of 26 Utahns invited to attend the Western Regional Meeting of the National Citizens Council for j better schools being held at the f Peruvian Lodge. Alta. Uah, May 16-1- 8. The conference theme was "How Can We Obtain, Keep, and Make The Best Use of Public Interest in Education." Henry Toy., Jr., President of NCCBS, was the Thursday eve-ning dinner speaker. Friday morning, Lawrence Mar-tin, Associate Editor of the Den-ver Post, discussed "Communi-cations." Friday afternoon a pan-el discussed "Merit Raise For Teachers." Elder Marion D. Hanks of the First Council of Seventy, L.D.S. Church, was the Friday evening speaker. Dr. H. Grant Vest, Commission-er of Education for Colorado, gave a final evaluation at the Saturday morning meeting. Mrs. Russell-B-. Petty, Ogden, and Mr. Leeds R. The commission last week re-jected two bids on the system because of technicalities. Wachob and Bender Corp. of Omaha, Neb., submitted the low bid last Friday carrying an in-terest rate of 4.21003 per cent. The bid was rejected because of a technicality over accurd in-terest. The other bid, submitted by Edward L. Burton Co., was re-jected because the firm is the fiscal agent for the district. The Burton bid was for an interest rate of 4.324. Stake Conference Set The Cottonwood Stake of the LDS Church will hold its quar-jterl-y conference Saturday and Sunday. No visiting general au-thorities have been assigned. |
