Show In 1956 trackage to the cement quarry was taken out of service. Since then the Sugar House branch has continued its freight service to the Sugar House business area. R. L. Spiars is the Rio Grande agent at Sugar House, which position he took over in Nov., 1957. F. R. Grove was his immediate im-mediate predecessor. Other Rio Grande agents familiar in the Sugar House territory include: J. P. Brennan, V. A. Tompltins, H. F. Garrison and A. O. Allison. Sugar House Railroad History The first railroad in Sugar House was built by the Salt Lake and Eastern Railway in 1889. It was a narrow guage line and in 1898 was leased by the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. It was converted to standard guage in 1900 and connected with the1 Rio Grande main line through trackage from the local yards. " The Park City branch was abandoned in 1946 and the track removed. A considerable portion of this right of way has been used in highway con-struetion con-struetion in Parley's Canyon. |
