December 11, 1958 Page 5 Guardsmen Can Again Receive Special Plates Destlnctlve 1959 Utah Nati-onal Guard license plates are available for members of the Utah National Guard, accord-ing to Major General Maxwell E. Rich. Utah Adjutant General. Utah law permits members of the Army or Air National Guard, in good standing" to purchase these distinctive plates. They can be used on passenger type vehicles of non-commercial registration. The vehicle must be registered In the name of the Guardsman or in his and his spouse's name. Pick-u- p trucks and other commercial vehicles cannot be licensed with distinctive Nati-onal Guard plates regardless of ownership or use. Procedures for obtaining-plate- s for 1959 have been simplified. National Guard com-manders provide members with an identification certificate which is inclosed with the regular application for license plates. This can be taken to the Utah State Tax Commission or one' of its regional offices where plates will be issued. (Continued on page 6) i . B.Y.U. Offers Many ' Student Tours Members of Brigham Young University travel-stud- y tours, will participate in 16 tours during the 1958-5- 9 season, ac-cording1 to Dr. Jay B. Hunt, director of travel studies. BYU, which has the largest university travel-stud- y pro-gram in the United States, will offer seven trips to Europe, two to Hawaii, one each to Quebec, Western America in-cluding Alaska, and Eastern United States, and four to Mexico and other points south of the border. Three of the European trips will include visits to niile countries in 25 days. Two new courses this year are study programs at the University of Hawaii in Hono-lulu and at the University of Laval in Quebec. Those par-- Jcipating in the Hawaiin tour, directed by Richard Guni. pro-fessor of education and art, will be able to take a five-wee- k program of courses there. The Quebec trip, directed by J. Reuben Clark III of the lan-guage department, will provide six weeks of study for credit in the French language and litdr-atur- e. The Hawaiian Islands study tour will be offered in con-nection with another to be con. ducted later in the summer and will give those tour members studying at the University an opportunity for outer islands study. The tour of Northern Europe will be directed by Vernon Anderson of the language de-partment. The tour will include 18 countries. Seventeen coun-tries are on the schedule for the tour of Southern Europe. The tour director will be Dr. Preston Gledhill of the speech department. Dr. Sterling Callahan and Stephen Allen of the College of Education will direct the comparative education trip through Europe. Visits to 14 countries with an optional trip to Russia are included. A Mediterranean study cruise whieh goes to ten countries including the British Isles will be directed by Dr. John R. Hal-lida- y, chairman of the Music Department. A four-wee-k student tour of nine European countries will be directed by Dr. R. Max Rogers of the language depart-ment and Dr. Leonard Rice of the English department. Prof. Gustive Larson of the religion departmenet will direct a four week, 10 country adult Euro-pean tour, and Dr. Wilford Smith, sociology department, will direct another to nine countries.
