Society Parties Food - by lean Bradsliaw NEW YEAR'S EVE New Year's Eve-in- g kept many sub-urba- n Salt Lakers up late on January 31st to hail the New Year. Parties abounded, just to mention a few: A group of friends including Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Backman, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pyke, and Mr. and Mrs. Thorton D. Morris gathered at Sir Lester? for a dinner-dancin- g evening. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford P. Morris wished Mr. and Mrs. D. Brent Scott a happy New Year while Mr. and Mrs. George Strike and Mr. and Mrs. Pres Dunn talked over New Year's Resolutions. Meanwhile another group chose the Aviation Club as the perfect setting for a New Year's celebra-tion. Among this group were Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Schulder, Mr. and Mrs. T. Upton Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Edward I. Vetter and Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Price. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Whitney and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest D. Mariana. Steaks, barbecued just as the clock struck twelve, were the cele-bration fare at the home of Maurice D. Jones, 1902 Laruelhurst Drive and Mr. and Mrs. Monte L. Hunsaker and Mr. and Mrs. Lyke K. Campbell were lending a hand. Mr. and Mrs. Reed N. Glauser and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Barnes also joined in the fun. BALLET Although the season has been merry and busy, Sugar House citizens still found time to give the Nutcracker ballet their enthus-iastic support and approval. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwendiman and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Anderson were glimpsed among the ballet enthus-iasts as were Mr. and Mrs. Budd H. Ensign and Dr. and Mrs. Al-bert Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Espenchied and Dr. and Mrs. Leon-ard W. Jarcho found their seats were near one another at a recent evening performance. Mr. and Mrs. B. Spencer Young, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Rod P. Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Allen commended the evening performance. BRUNCH A Sunday morning brunch brought friends of Miss Claudia Van Voorhis, 1833 Yale avenue to-gether last week end. She invited guests to arrive between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and noon. Among the friends who called were Mr. and Mrs. James Rains and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas A. Jackson. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawson and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Dumke, Jr. Also visiting around the Christmas tree were Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Bintz and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stake and Dr. ' and Mrs. Robert M. Davey were members of the Chat-Abo- ut Club: Mr. and Mrs. A. Lee Christensen, Mrs. Norma Pollard, Mr. and Mrs. Warner Keipe, Dr. and Mrs. E. O. Thomp-son, Mr. and Mrs. Theron Teel, and Mrs. G. Homer Durham and Mrs. Milton R. Hunter. Junior League Sets Charity Ball Monday, January 7th, is a red letter day for members of Salt Lake Junior League. This is the day when production begins in earnest for the "Follies Petite" per-formance that is a highlight of the League's charity ball schedule for Jan. 19. The University of Utah's new Student Union Building is to be the scene of the ball which will feature a continuous dinner and dancing in addition to the local-tale- nt follies. Tickets for the ball are available from any league member for the price of $12.50 a couple. Funds from the ticket sales will be used to continue the many charity, wel-fare and community-betterme- nt projects of the League. Ball chairman, Mrs. Peter W. Billings, announces that a prize of a six day, all expense paid, vaca-tion for two at the Paradise Inn in Phoenix, Arizona will be awarded to a lucky couple attend-ing the ball. League members and their hus-bands will be spotlighted at 10:30 p.m. that evening in a follies that will be produced and directed by the Jerome II. Cargill Productions Organization Inc. of New York City. Ardean Watts' orchestra will provide music for the entire evening. Committee members assisting Mrs. Billings with arrangements are Mrs. Richard K. Reuling, Mrs. Tarley White, Mrs. Robert Law-so- n, Mrs. John L. Crenshaw, Jr., Mrs. Charles T. Attending the Rose Bowl game over the holiday were Mr. and Mrs. Neuman C. Petty and Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm F. LeSueur. This youngster, who weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces at birth, has brothers, Fred, Jr., 13; James, 10; and Bobbie, 5 waiting, at home and eager to become acquainted. The baby's mother is the former Iris Hayden. Mr. and Mrs. Benja-min Sharpies of 2333 East 3225 South St. are the baby's grand-parents in the Sugar House area. For the day after Christ-mas is the birthdate already of fourteen-yea- r old twins, Kenley and Kaylene. But arriving on the scene this year to add another birthday to the Dec. 26th celebra-tion is a new baby sister who weighed in at 8 pounds 3 ounces. So it is that five-year-o- ld sister, Pamela, will be the only one in the family off-spri- ng with her own separate birthdate.
