' : M ' J ';!?'' - ' - . 1 ' ' , ' THRILLING CLIMAX to nearly two years of hard work and financial sacrifice was realized last Sunday for members of the Kenwood and Kenwood Second Wards and members of the Wilford Stake when their beautiful new build-in- g was occupied for the first time. Ground was broken for the beautiful $475,000 stake and' two-war- d building in August, 195G. Dedica-tion is yet future, pending paying off the final costs and doing some finishing work, but it was a great day nevertheless when the two wards could begin holding their meetings in the beau-tif- ul new building. Baby Girl Arrives A now nine pound daughter, named Lizabeth Anne, is the welcome arrival at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richford 0. Scopes, 9S5 Elgin Avenue. The new little family member arrived on the anniversary of the nation's birth, July 4, at the Cottonwood Maternity Hos-pital. He left Salt Lake City the middle of June and will return the first week in August. The Canyon Rim Ward MIA held an outing at Box Elder Flats in East Mill Creek Canyon Wednesday, July 2. The entire mutual participated in games, a program, and eats cooked over a large fire. The group sang songs, told stories; and had a wonderful time until time to go home about 10 p.m. Jim Lowther, 3391 Larchmont Drive, Jim Rice, 2455 E. 3225 S., and Lynn Lyon, 3087 S. 2300 E., are among the boys who will spend two weeks in summer camp for the National Guard in Yakima, Washington. They left Saturday, July 5, and will re-turn about July 20. Mr. and Mrs. John Lyon, formerly of the Rosecrest Ward, are the proud parents of a baby boy born Monday, June 30. This is the first child for the Lyon's. Mrs. Lyon is the for-mer Carole Elsmore. Melvin L. Ellingson is recup-erating from a back operation he underwent June 17. After a two-wee- k stay in the hospital, he again returned to his family of nine at 2160 E. 3080 S. Gaylen L. Wycherly, 3181 S. 2300 E. is in the hospital re-covering from an operation per-formed Tuesday, July 1, for the removal of a slipped dies in his back. He will remain in the hospital until the middle of July. The Rosecrest Ward is hold-it- s annual ward outing at Storm Mountain Friday, July 11. The ward is planning a dinner for all and games will be played and a program presented later in the evening. The Rosecrest Ward held a children's parade, barbecue and carnival Wednesday, July 9. The parade started at 2600 E. and Lambourne Ave. The child-ren had floats, bikes, trikes, and costumes all decorated with paper and ribbons and flags as they paraded before proud par-ents and spectators. They rode West on Lambourne Ave. to 2300 E., then north to the ward and around to the parking lot. The girls of the ward had a bar-becue dinner ready and a car-nival with booths and prizes. Profits went toward the Wood-land Recreation Area in Provo Canyon. The Rosecrest 2nd ward held a party and treasure hunt for the MIA Tuesday, July 1. Re-freshments were served after the fun was over. The treasure hunt took place through the ward and the parking lot and grounds. Charles R. Bird, pension plan administrator for the Western Mining Division of Kennecott Copper Corporation, recently completed a trip to the Nevada, Ray, and Chino properties of Kennecott. While in Phoenix, he visited with Gerhard Rathke and his family, formerly of the Rosecrest ward. , |
