Show SUGAR HOUSE By Elaine Reiser An 80th birthday celebration, honoring Mrs. Anna Jorgensen, 10S2 Lake Street, was held Saturday, July 5, at her home. Joining in the celebration were her husband, liana Peter Jorgensen, Jor-gensen, and her four sons and daughters. Mrs. Jorgensen came to America from Den-mark Den-mark in 1947. She has 11 grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and one great-great great-great grandchild. An open house honoring Mrs. Minnie H. Brown, 828 McCel-land McCel-land Street, was held Sunday, July 6. She was born in Manti and lived in Price and Castle Dale as a young girl. She married David H. Brown in 1905, and they have a son and two daughters. Paul Wymer returned from a month's training in California at a seeing eye dog center. He and his wife, Lola, are proud of their dog, Susie. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Crapo spent a week visiting relatives and friends in Richfield and Fairview Roger J. McDonough, 995 la Lincoln Street was recently awarded the J. 'A. Howell Scholarship for 1958-59. He is among the top ten percent of his class at the University of Utah and is editor of the Utah Law Review. An unforgettable party for the Bryan Second Ward Choir was held at the Kenneth W. Burnett Cabin in Emigration Canyon. Among those attending attend-ing were Ernest and Sula Kimball, Kim-ball, Mary and Afton Hillier, the Litsters, Barbara Jean Litster, Elizabeth Hanney, Emma Whitmore, the Howard Fletchers, Don Nelson, the Harold Har-old Clarks, and . the Joseph Reeds. July 4th at the Homestead made fun for Fred Buchanan, Carolyn Reiser, Karen Tanner, Kent Condie, Glenna Moon, Lila Coleman, Jean Gough, Andy Robertson, Delyle Condie, Julian Robertson, Lynn Thompson, Thomp-son, and Jim Rigby. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Campbell Camp-bell and sons, Kevin and Bobby, drove to Idaho Falls for a week of visiting and relaxing. v Weddings again take the spotlight this week. W. Bruce Speakman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman J. Speakman, Speak-man, 1133 Browning Avenue, will marry Marie Dean, daughter daugh-ter of Mr and Mrs. Charles E. Dean of Provo, in rites in the Salt Lake Temple, August 8. They will be honored at a reception re-ception in Provo that night, and one following night in Bryan Ward, 1621 South 11th East She is a BYU graduate and filled a mission to the Northwestern North-western States. Mr. Speakman is a graduate of the University of Utah and filled a mission in Northern California. Miss JoAnn Leaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. Leaver, 1359 Roosevelt Avenue, is engaged to Duane C. Jackson, Jack-son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos James Jackson, 819 Roosevelt Avenue. Her parents announced their wedding date at a luncheon lun-cheon at the Ambassador Club. They will be married August 9 at the First Baptist Church, with Fenwick Fowler performing perform-ing the ceremony. The couple attended Westminster College, and Mr. Jackson graduated from there recently. August 20 is the date chosen by Miss Phyllis Lee Burbidge and J. Fred Pingree, Jr. for their wedding, to take place in the Salt Lake Temple. Dr. and Mrs. Leslie D. Burbidge, 1590 Millcreek Way, are parents of the bride and Mr. and Mrs. J. Fred Pingree, 554 G Street, are the bridegroom's parents. A reception at the Burbidge home will further honor the young couple and they will honeymoon en route to Boston, Massachusetts, where Mr. Pingree Pin-gree will begin study at Harvard Har-vard University. Both were students at the University of Utah. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Stallings, 1011 South 12th East, announce the engagement and approaching approach-ing marriage of their daughter, Tonia, to Jay E. Jensen. The ceremony will be performed in the Logan Temple July 28, and a reception will be held that evening at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. Jensen returned re-turned from a mission in Denmark Den-mark and served a tour of duty in the Army. He also graduated from the College of Law, University Uni-versity of Utah. Miss Stallings Stal-lings graduated from the Uni-vrsity Uni-vrsity of Utah and has been teaching school since then. Proud grandparents of a lovely girl are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moss, 1575 South 11th East. The new baby is a daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton E. Moss. Other children in the family, happy to greet the new arrival are Lynn, Daryl and Randy. A violin recital for Miss Amy Jean Abersold, student of Sally Peck of the Utah State Symphony, Sym-phony, will be given July 21, 8:15 p.m. in the Music Hall at the University ofUtah. The Music Hall was formerly the Union Building on campus. The recital is free to the public. Miss Abersold will play five numbers. She will be accompanied accom-panied by Paul Banham, instructor in-structor in the Department of Music. Stretching their legs as they climbed Mount Timpanogos" were four coeds from the University Uni-versity of Utah, Janis Locher, Barbara D a v i e s, Maureen Adams and Kathleen Halver-son. Halver-son. Janis, Barbara and Maureen Mau-reen went on a hike sponsored by the Lambda Delta Sigma organization at the 'U', and Kathleen participated with graduate students from the anthropology department. On his way north, to Anchorage, Ancho-rage, Alaska is Kenneth R. Millard, 919 Logan Avenue, who served in the U.S. Army there for two years. He will visit friends while there and hopes to return this week, piloting his own plane, which he left there temporarily upon his release re-lease from the service last winter. Paul Kimball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kimball, is touring the Holy Land and Europe extensively ex-tensively prior to his return home in September. He was released from the East German Mission last month and has been touring with an art student stu-dent friend since then. He plans to include the Brussels World Fair and the London Temple Dedication on his itinerary. Ten days in enchanting Hawaii were on the docket for Mr. and Mrs. Christian Jensen, 1414 McClelland Street, as winners of the Dotto Contest on KSL-TV recently. They returned re-turned this week with glowing stories of their stay in the beautiful Hawaiian Village Hotel in Honolulu. Accompany, ing the duo were ' their son, Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Verl Jacobsen of Salt Lake City, and Miss Martha Irvine of Pacific Grove, California. Among the activities enjoyed by the tourists tour-ists were a moonlight sail with dinner on board the cruiser, a visit to the Mormon Temple at Laie, a native luau, a tour through the Dol(e Pineapple factory and a sea tour through Pearl Harbor. The Jennings also celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary in the Islands. |
