Show church leaders stress welfare program at quarterly conference apostle joseph F merrill morrall urges cooperation for effective operation of welfare program 2 the progress and development of the church welfare program in ane wards of the roosevelt stake was the theme of the regular quarterly priesthood conference held in the stake chapel saturday evening and sunday elder joseph F merrill of the council of the twelve apostles was the principal speaker after hearing reports from various ward bishops on the welfare program elder merrill urged cooperation among all ward members as necessary tor for the success of the program ile he stated that some money is needed to carry on any program but that money kills more people than it saves eaves mrs airs kate killian president of the stake relief society reported that the stake had fulfilled its welfare quota by making 6 quilts and canning thousands of cans of fruits and vegetables apostle merrill stated that the relief society because of its activity is the premium organization in the church apostle merrill gave praise to the roosevelt school choir which under the direction of clyde johnson furnished musical numbers ile he asked the people to be wise in all their doings and to act under the inspiration of the holy spirit in his closing words he explained that the church welfare program is nothing new in principle and has existed since the days of joseph smith the only new thing about it he said is the organization through which it is made to operate ward vard reports during the two sessions sunday which were presided over by stake president B 0 colton very interesting reports on the welfare program within the wards were outlined by ward bishops W K dye of neola spoke ot of the need tor for converting people to the program and heber T hall discussed organization of a plan to educate members to the welfare work I 1 S eksund of leota said cooperation was needed among ward committee members moffat ward house bishop C W bodily of the moffatt waid gave an interesting account of how ward members financed the purchase and remodeling of their ward house he stated that through cooperation they were able to go into the mountains and get out lumber which was traded to tile the school district for an old brick building the building was n modeled and members now have a fine place in which to hold meetings bishop charles T of randlett spoke on the subject how to develop an adea adequate pate water supply for our people he said that many things might be done is a program were planned over a period of time which allowed tor for partial development periodically president B A childs of the he stake missionary work discussed the activities ot of the missionary department part ment he said that there is some degree of success in the work but that he hoped for g ca cater t effort and better results in the future other speakers were president colton ray E dillman and wm russel todd who all made inspirational addresses on the need for cooperation and helping each other in these trying times mis geneva wright of ft duchesne furnished music for the afternoon cession priesthood conference on saturday evening priesthood conference was held and leaders discussed the church welfare program AT 1 I A convention was held sunday evening and the following program was pres presented L anted selections by the gleaner girls chorus scriptural reading by mrs Al mildred ildred dillman saxophone duet by A G mckinnon and bartley heiner and talk by wm russel todd |
