Show over people attend annual scout banquet banquet saturday evening Is thrilling Thrill inK climax to week of activities A real tribute to scouting in the roosevelt district was tile the great success of the annual banquet held saturday evening eveni ng as a s in a climax to the weeks activities s in observation of the anniversary of scouting over scouts cubs shouters and parents of scouts attended the affair and enjoyed the interesting program presented by scouts of the district following community singing led by aalur arthur balard troop scoutmaster and the invocation by B 0 colton M E lundberg chairman of the district council made an address of welcome and introduced toastmaster leroi jones program numbers were arranged by the troops of the district and included a trumpet quartet from tile the won myton troop reading by melvin mecham of the neola troop musical and dance numbers by mose and earl wright of fort duchesne and a clover clever ballet dance presented by six youngsters from the roosevelt troop including howard allred ray scholes Sc hoies leonard mit cheil don sprouse earl alexander and boyd mullins these boys were dressed in fluffy ballet costumes and got a big hand from the audience praise scouting responses were made by a number of roosevelt citizens including mayor george H harrison who called atte attention iRion to the fact that in just 29 years scouting had lured well over men and boys into its activities and mentioned the fact that the L D S church was one of the first church organizations to recognize recognize rec the value of scouting and take it over as part of their program C C white president of the roosevelt lions club spoke a few words and told of his enjoyment in his first experience here with scouting and of its value in building good americans ray E dillman gave a spirited pep talk on s scouting and urged that fathers give more mole time to their sons he recommended that father and son spend an a n hour a day together doing things thing the boys suggest this he said will prove a great developer and will teach boys to think in terms of father and son express appreciation an interesting phase of th the program were the talks made by the three eagle scouts of the district grant fredrickson who was presented with this top award al the banquet by willard day spoke on what scouting had meant to him the other two boys miles dillman Dill mari and reed clegg both students at the brigham university spoke on the value and import importance ane e J of scouting in a boys life young 1 mr clegg urged cubs and younger boys to get into scouting early ard learn its fundamentals as ri idly as possible both boys expressed 4 their delight in returning 9 to the roosevelt district and being beine among the scouts and shouters with whom they have had such fine experiences 9 presentations biado alade during the banquet a court of honor was hold held under the direction of D D nicholson district court director and scout executive merrill Christo pherson of tho th utah national parks council presented 1 the following awards star 11 awards to burton hanson miles fir colton noel lambert and lawrence bircher life awards to car kirk wilkins burton hanson and miles colton at the iffie end of the program mr Christo pherson talked on the advantages of beine beina a scout and presented movine pictures of scout outings and hikes nosed dosed tor for him by scouts of the provo district |
