| Show many bany improvements A ald to development of reservation area yew now water systems and Bur burnings dings improve living conditions at fort pu duchesne chesne and IMite whiterocks rocks indian departments development ot of range WUI will increase wealth of 0 eastern utah the indian department has played a prominent role in development of eastern utah particularly the reservation area each year the department has spent considerable s turns in promoting agriculture and livestock improving the ranges and water supply and building roads mads all of which add to the wealth of this section and make its lands more p profitable table duri during n the past year extensive but much mu ch needed improvements have been made both at the reservation communities at fort duchesne and whiterocks and also on the indian grazing and farm lands A complete new water system was installed at whiterocks which supplies water to the government indian school plant and serves the community as well this project which was completed in october was a indian department project costing approximately A new water system for fort duchesne including teet feet of new pipe line and a clear water reservoir has been completed at a cost of also included in this project i is the itlie reconstruction of the power lines at whiterocks and fort duchesne duches ne this has not yet been completed other improvements have been made at fort duchesne including the construction of two new cottages at a cost of and with approximately U B L I 1 C funds a new asphalt terill tennis i s court and four stone drinking fountains were constructed in the circle office building A project which will greatly im improve working conditions for employees of the indian department i a new administration building aich is now under construction it at fort duchesne the building aich which is to be completed april will cost und lad improvements the indian irrigation department at myton has just started on t project which includes rehabilitating the reservation ca ml 1111 systems replacing old structures enlarging and combining canals camis which serve both indian and white owned lands many improvements have also been made on the range land this year for the fiscal year 1938 39 funds were allotted to the uintah ustah ouray agency to date approximately proximately half this sum has 01 ileen been expended on the construction of two new bridges costing 1 00 each over red creek IS 18 miles north of Duches Duche sm nt the ridges bridges improve a road which con sects with a forest road opening UP the indian grazing acres in this is area and also a vast scenic section tion about 20 springs on the indian man grazing land north of roo welt velt nave been developed this year rear on the uncompahgre graz grazing ing area ea in the hill creek sect section ion thur bour dams have been construe constructed ted for T erosion control and water beading Wea reading ding purposes s es a bridge costs ing was built over hill I 1 7 welt creek and two stock water reservoirs have been completed thirty five ve miles of truck trail have also been completed in this section at il cost of about in addition hundreds of feet of drift t and boundary fences have beel n built on the grazing areas another important improvement Is the graveling of the whiterocks road wl and bringing up to a gravel stace surface about 18 miles of road I 1 in n the e vicinity of fort duchesne and whiterocks at a cost of telephone lines between whiterocks ro ks and the elk horn ranger station ion at farm creek and bei aveen duchesne and lapoint have e also been constructed i COP P experimentation under the direction of t the he P agency an elpe experiment ariment which has i proved during flu 6 i interesting ite resting was carried on aj fidi th e past year on nood flood at were ouray alfalfa and oats V ve planted ted by indians and a gry e 80 fine crop P was harvested on water fa acre le experimental pl plot ot for irrigation bation ea tion fr 41 was pumped n the anite t river liver there are list ds I 1 1500 acres s of sirril simi ea if which are to be cultivate the pr tecc ive successful elpe ariment continues to bong ate sho sing the standard d of f living the ke esth nS it Th have indian s many improve improve 1 euna erinc eu inc a md and been made lad in i indi indian tunas i farms with private lie longing to indian families I 1 llew homes 01 ta 24 0 ol 01 ia I 1 1 have been built kit b ones remodeled five new dew meted and 22 root cel lars built indian funds have also helped the work of eradicating noxious weeds from this section and the many far reaching and permanent improvements and developments carried on by the indian department are of great benefit to the whites as won well as the indians of this section |
