Show FOREST DEPT ANNOUNCES REDUCTION IN OF MAN N CAUSED FIRES the annual fire report for the intermountain region has just been compiled and has proved to be extremely interesting according to john N kinney assistant regional forester the most striking feature of the report is the marked reduction in the number of man caused fires since 1934 the percentage of man caused fires has been reduced 46 percent starting with a reduction of 10 percent in 1935 13 percent in 1936 11 percent in 1937 and 22 percent in 1938 we sometimes wonder whether our efforts to make the public fire conscious are really accomplishing something worthwhile this 1938 fire report is cei certainly encouraging and indicates that the public is cooperating 1 with us much more fully than 1 they did several years ago I 1 the fire report indicates reported fires in the region with I 1 only reported as damage acres were burned over but this was mostly open areas with little or no timber the annual average is approximately acres and the damage we hope that the public will continue to cooperate with us in the protection and conservation of our forest areas and that for ensuing years we can continue to show on our annual reports a steady decrease in our number of man caused fires mr kinney said aid |
