I Mrs. Allen also discussed challenges facing Davis County Coun-ty parents. Sh encouraged the use of volunteers in the schools, pointing out that both the child and the parent benefit. be-nefit. Mrs. Allen urged parents to foster respect for authority. She noted that concerns should be handled quietly between be-tween parent and teacher or parent and principal. It's vital, she said, for children to see a cooperative and united effort on the part of home and school. PRECEDING Mrs. Allen's remarks the Centerville String Group, led by Mary Lou Hol- brook, presented three selections. selec-tions. An audience favorite was "Pickin' and Grinnin'" with its whimsical melody and toe-tapping beat. Mikki Bedell played a cello solo. The Centerville Children's Chorus concluded the evening with an outstanding presentation. presenta-tion. Fifty-seven children participated. par-ticipated. (It was a family affair for many - 13 families had two children or more singing with the group.) LIKE THE members of the string group, the children in the chorus came to school early ear-ly in the mornings for rehearsals. rehear-sals. The choral program centered cen-tered around the theme of a child's life. Kristan Anderson soloed with "How Many People Peo-ple Do You Love," and Michelle Mobley, a kinder-gartner, kinder-gartner, sang "I Am Five." Sixth grade boys acted out the song "Hey Won't Somebody Come And Play." THE AUDIENCE was enthusiastic en-thusiastic and the entire performance per-formance was spirited and polished. Roann Parkins a fifth grade teacher at Centerville Cen-terville Elementary, directed the chorus with parents Paula Boss and Diane Mobley. Following the program, parents pa-rents visited displays from the mini-classes recently completed com-pleted at the school. The children chil-dren have been learning mac-rame, mac-rame, counted cross stitch, ceramics, crafts, and photography. photo-graphy. Other children elected to participate in creative writing, writ-ing, music writing or a babysitting baby-sitting clinic. 2:'; THE ENTIRE evening was a culmination of the kind of volunteerism Mrs. Allen was advocating in her remarks. Over 20 dedicated parents gave hundreds of hours in instructing in-structing and encouraging to provide success experiences for the children at Centerville Elementary. . I |
