Show BOOSTERS SEEK GRANT OF FROM STATE TO PROMOTE UTAH U that the advertising of utah properly handled should prove to til be e an investment and not an expense is the point emphasized in communications just received by governor henry 11 II blood president of the senate herbeat IIer beit B slaw maw and speaker of the house of representatives joseph W jon jen ien the letters are from the salt ake advertising club and are a I 1 result of a meeting held last wednesday by that organization in salt lake city at which unanimous action was taken in deciding to forward the following communication muni cation to the three men pie named we have observed from recent press notices that secretaries n L various civic organizations have decided not to press for a sl te promotional appropriation as so fo many other demands for money are being made upon the state government it is reasonable to assume therefore that the attitude r x pressed indicates that an impression apparently prevails in we tiie minds of these gentlemen that this measure is being consider considered cd entirely as an expense item advertising Is investment when properly planned organized properly presented present d and judiciously expended ad advertising ver is an investment bringing direct areat returns and should therefore not be considered as an ex e bense we assume that should the legislature decide to appropriate state funds for state advertising and promotion provision will 0 of f course be made to assure the proper panning and judicious e expenditure of such funds in order that the functions of advertising may be realized we like other civic bodies and individuals are likewise interested in the elimina i tion of any unnecessary e expenditure of funds which are collected I 1 by taxation by federal state municipal or county governments jt is our contention however that there prevails in this instance a decided distinction between expense and investment the state of utah excels in attractions scenic and industrial abot which the world shod be tod i in n systematic well conceived co consistent 1 advertising the deop beope e who are brough here to see and inspect these attractions brins brin new money with them they sper I 1 as they go they constitute a market for a tremendous cash crop which if expended here will wil benefit t people generally as the ha visitors dollar is widely distributed I 1 incidentally it is probably not necessary to call your attention to the fact that the objectives of such a campaign will no doubt involve the expenditure of the he major portion of the fund outside of utah thus it is not an effort for the direct benefit of lh the utah advertis advertising in profession our motive in calling this situation to your attention is prompted only by a conch condition tion si al fording an opportunity chich if acted upon will be in the bet bert interests of the people generally intense competition has developed in state ani and community merchandising chan dising just as it his has long prevailed in business and trade the modern merchant or manufacturer fac realizes that he must inform the people of the he value he offers if he e in 0 o h I 1 f success so it is ath ati states uj communities |
