| Show STEPS TAKEN TO TAP UINTAH BASIN from an article in the salt lake tribune appears the fol following lowin 9 regarding the construction cons traction ot of a rail road to the uintah basin one ol of the most important steps in the industrial growth ot of utah was taken fareh 9 in the annagul meeting at salt lake of bt the salt lake denver railroad company and its holding company com pamy the utah colorado industrial corporation when a resolution was passed authorizing the application to the interstate commerce commission tor for a certificate ot of convenience and necessity tor for construction of 0 a railroad from provo to connect with the ithe denver salt lake railroad moffat line at craig colo coio the granting gra aLting ot of the application would mean the construction ot of a railroad from craig colo through the uintah basin to provo thus opening up a region in northeastern utah unusually rich in resources with the cons construction trAction of 0 the proposed line and the completion ot of the moffat road through the moffat tunnel the distance from deaver to salt alake will be cut from miles by the denver rio grande western route mute to miles the denver salt lake western railway recently incorporated in wyoming tiled filed an application with the interstate commerce commission in december 1924 tor for building a cutoff between orestod on the mot tat fat road and dotsero dottero on the D R G W while the construction ot of this cutoff would shorten the present distance on the D R G W from salt lake to denver deaver by miles said julian M bamberger vice president ot of the salt lake denver railroad company yet it would not in any way serve the uintah basin nor tend to develop that wonderful vast empire lying in northeastern utah it the interstate commerce commission grants the application and the cutoff is built there will not be sufficient business to warrant the construction ot of the road through the uintah basin should favorable action be taken on the application for the road through the uintah basin construction would be started in time tor for completing the work when the mot tat fat james jamea peak tunnel Is finished the latter is one third completed and it is estimated it will take until late in 1926 or early in 1927 to finish the other two thirds the public utilities commission of utah granted a certificate of convenience and necessity to the salt lake denver railroad to in 1920 but owing to the stringent money market nothing was done at that time to finance the building of the road it was said mr air bamberger said eald he believed funds would be available soon atter alter the interstate commerce commission acts on the companas comp anys application |
