Show NO FUNDS FOR EXTRA MONTH OF SCHOOL A special meeting ot of the county board of education was held at duchesne on saturday march 14 to consider the requests of 0 several towns that the public elementary schools be continued ifor eight months this year the clerk had bad previously prepared a careful statement 0 of the available lunda funds and ot of the estimated expenses tor for the schools until taxes come in next tall fall careful consideration was given to the conditions that to secure the state appropriation ot of 25 per capita the elementary schools must continue in session at least seven months and the high schools ninth grades and up must be held at least eight months to secure the state stata high school funds all board members and towns desire longer school terms the clerks estimate showed that compared with last year there appeared a less amount ot of money available by to start the schools out with next september than was available in september 1924 there being as against then available last year this carried the expenses over the summer to buy school books supplies and other items and to cover the pay roll for the first month bt bf school for the second pay roll had to be borrowed to pay the bills until taxes arrived in december with this addle additional lonal shortage of funds this year the board felt the chances tor for even seven of school next year would w be jeopardized it if an eight months school were added this year it was found that most teachers had planned their work the past bearon year on the basis of a seven months term and much less efficiency would be given by changing their plans at this late date the board therefore voted to close all elementary schools grades one to eight inclusive it at the end of the seventh month on april 10 to prevent devent disruption des ot of work in ate the high cc schools bools where depart department work between grade and high schools has been carried on two teachers will be retained to handle the ninth and tenth grade subjects |
