Show t, Gratifying State of Bird Life in Florida WhUe there Is no doubt that great damage wus done to the bird life of the Everglades by hurricanes In r'lor-, r'lor-, Ida, It Is encouraging to know, from report made to the blologlcul survey of the United States Department of Agriculture, that there are still u umbers um-bers of beautiful plume birds In this region. An official recently made trip through the Lake Okeecbobee region re-gion and bod an opportunity to witness wit-ness a rare and beautiful sight, one that a bird lover might expect to see but once la lifetime. At point about ten miles east and north of Bell Glade, Halm Beach county, and ias far ss Pahokee, In all a distance of about 25 miles, there were thou ands of American egrets and anowy egrets, stretching away as far as one could see. It was Impossible to estl mate the number of these beautiful birds. Within 100 yards of Belle Glade v ' not less than 8MI snowy egrets fed unmolested. White there seemed no reason for these birds gathering In ucb vast numbers In this territory Ithe sight was positive proof thnt II I plume birds of Florida have benefited joy the protection afforded thpm under un-der the migratory bird trenty act. |
