Show DRY GULCH irrigation CO SHOULD NOT BE DIVIDED AT THIS TIME j we feel that it is unfortunate 1 the stockholders of the and to the best interests of the ea ba sin that the question 0 of al the dry gulch irrigation company f should have been raised at this time we have just passed thru tile the hardest summer we nye have had in theL the Dasin lasin and have lost thru drought sufficient to build reservoirs sufficient to insure us against another such year we have been all summer planning for these reservoirs ervo irs have reached that is tile the board ot of directors has reached definite plans as to the work and know something for the first time of the cost of reservoirs and now it if this question of dividing the company is raised it cannot well be settled aled in a short time and it will divide sentiment and bring on I 1 tear fear bicke rings and distrust and ahal our plans tor for building reservoirs will tall fall down and we be left in our present helpless condition when dry weather again comes upon us mr gentry sadly errs in two of his strong statements relative to this question in III the first place mr woolf is not and was never employed as the he manager of the dry gulch irrigation co he has h been engaged as the companas comp anys eng neer ile he has no powers of management I 1 ca placed upon him nor has he so far as we know ever exercise I 1 ed tor for a moment the powers of man r ager As the companas comp anys engineer he has done good and efficient work j he has rated all our canals and shown us that most of them are not large enough to carry the water athey they should and must carry before w we e make proof of 0 beneficial use class lass C canal for instance carries but 76 feet of water to accommodate all its stockholders it should carry second feet of wat er it must be made to carry this before we can make proof of beneficial use we will have to submit hs proof at abe end seasonal season unless we get an extension of time over iver and above our limit ot of 14 I 1 years ears to meet all these condi conall lons ions an engineer is an absolute 1 necessity to the company and that mr woolf has well filled f the other statement in which mr sentry entry erred was in that a stock meeting had been called to i borrow arow money to be expended on oil ine ne class while such a proceed ure be perfectly proper it hap ens that the money that the board was as authorized to borrow at that 4 Is cular meeting contemplated the I 1 ending of a very large proportion oc ge th on the moon lake reservoir I 1 5 ti mr gentry wa wants lits to know why 0 ne portion of the company should nd ind its credit to any other class I 1 se his has been one of the commend ble le points in the organization oc fiat t it could because of its size nd dim importance has always been loc joe iafe iii to borrow when necessary and icum turra to loan this credit to any ion of its classes what would liss lass C have done in 1909 10 loc joe hd al 11 had it not been tor for this In ciple does mr gentry kemem ac er that the company borrowed at that time and loaned joe lass ass C of it does mr entry know of any irrigation com lot ny y in n the country at that time t could have borromea borr owea 8 it a mis suse of the corporate vers of the company at that time j orne come to the rescue of class C jsn n it if it Is necessary to go to the acue ue of one or more of the classes C lay y is it wro wrong ng 00 oo B n all other parts of the canal hariles are combining not segre ing ng we have reached a point our development where reser ra a are an absolute necessity ise se cost money the Lake tork fork ibis messed blessed ln in that there is an tt j berlent le ut site tor for storing the flood ers s the board ot of directors has so impressed with the import lance ance of the site that they have purchased at a large cost tile the filing on this site that theirs in right water can be stor ed at moon late lake that is acre teet feet of water can be stored moon lake for 10 an acre toot foot have found no site on the side in which more than teet feet can be stored store d and this at a cost ot of 25 to 40 an acre loot foot acre feet of stored water will take care of every acre of land under the tha dry gulch system but to store this we have got to be strong in credit the whole company can store this water as it is now organized but if we segregate we cannot do so for or we cannot set get the money why not continue to pull together and build this one reservoir together permitting the aln tah side to bring their water from the reservoir ac their own ex x pense thru canal rather than to pay more than double for the storage sto rags mr gentry complains that the company is too large and ly that it cannot be handled economically no do you not know that in spite ot of our antagonism to trusts that these trusts produce the cheapest commodities that are made the dry gulch irrigation company has not been as economically managed as it could and should have been for me simple reason that sound business principles have never been applied the company has never had a manager that has been the trouble what would you think of a merchant that would run his business in ila several departments and no baad tu to it where would your bank go to it if you said to the board of Dir directors I 1 each of you take a part of this and we ve will still do our farming arming lind run the bank between us yet this is what we do with this zeat company I A director is in the fjeld plow fiig l coues conc s ruling up all and and yells class C canal is roke froke and flooding the roads 1 well says the director 1 I have got to get this land plo plowed iNed and so the break remains a day two days before it I 1 is t s fixed the director is ia putting up I 1 his hay he has a crew helping A break in the canal is reported he must either leave his field at an immense loss to himself personally or the company suffer it if you had a general manager and paid that man what he is worth he would have all details at his finger tips he would know where work should be applied and how he would be on the spot or have some one there within a few minutes after the break or the emergency lie he would save you stock holders thousands of dollars annually and you would have some one to hold responsible the cure of the most of 0 your ills is to find the right kind of 0 a man and hire him to run this company just as you would find a mani man to hire and run and other business of magnitude and when you do this you will find the company is not too large but that results are splendid now seriously as to dividing the company this can only be done by unanimous there Is no other vay ay do you suppose you will ever get anarah unanimous loon sent for that purpose you know 11 you will not and agitation at this time will but lead to dissatisfaction and you will defeat any movement for reservoirs or improvements that wo we so much need so lets forget it and do that which is so urgently needed at this time judged by every one who has viewed it our com company paray and what it has accomplished stands as an example to the whole state and the excessive cost as complained of by many la Is not borne out by the record Dissent dissentious ions at al this time will but injure instead of benefit ting K R S COLLETT |
