Show A LETTER LETTE M OVER THERE stromberg geimann Gei germany many march 27 1919 my dear wife and baby I 1 am well as usual and feeling fine I 1 just received a letter from you to day it was written march C G and was certainly glad to hear from you and also to hear that you were still well what are you all doing now are you having good weather it il i raining IT r snowing here most of the time although it freeze much it is snowing again this thia morning next it will rain quite tunny funny weather dont you think we arent out in the weather very much only about four arid and a halt half hours each day I 1 am sure glad to hear the che flu la Is dying out hope it get started again it sure is a pestilence I 1 think you people had a harder fight vath filth it than we had here tor for it 1 t lit hit us so awful hard but hard enough I 1 suppose you heard that all soldiers get a shot in the arm before they sail for home well I 1 got mine last night and made me feel dumpish it makes a mans arm lame for a little litile while I 1 guess you wonder what we do to pass away the time some evenings we go to moving picture shows in our mess room and some times we go to brigade headquarters to a sho we got any Y M C A here some of the Y girls come up lip and make cocoa and doughnuts for us when I 1 go to brigade headquarters I 1 see J peterson and quite a lot of the boys from baty A F A J is looking fine and also feeling fine I 1 see by the free press that J 11 II nick had a croix de guerre I 1 guess he found it we nile ill all did our bit tile the heavy artillery were back of the infantry we Is got lots of hard work end lots of big shells from the german cerman army and we gave them some in return and no hand t to 0 hand band fighting at all this is a beautiful country on this rhineland Uhl neland somo some of it Is very interesting one can go down on tile tha point of the hill near this town and can see coblenz perndorf berndorf Pern dorf seine and several other small towns there are any number of factories on the rhine and in the nearby vou country this 1 Is a great center for factories of all kinds there are many pottery and brick factories I 1 all along the rhine the hill sides are built up in terraces there are hundreds of acres of grapes growing on the hillsides hill sides so steep one can hardly walk v alk up them these dutch people are very industrious they work as much as twelve hours a flay day the women work just like the men two old women just went by with bundles of wood on their head I 1 doubt it I 1 could carry one of them on my shoulder in this town each man owns a piece of ground about as large as the fourth of an acre they do not have any fences their barns are usually built on one end of their house not many of the people have horses they milk their goats and work their cows some of their goats goals never see sea out cut ot of their stall I 1 want you to have halt dozen young roosters tat fat for me when I 1 get home for I 1 will say oh stomach prepare thy self it seems like I 1 remember something about pies I 1 dont know just what they are but I 1 would like to sample a dozen will close with love to all As ever your loving husband SAMUEL T ROBERTS |
