Show ALLOTMENT PLAN the executives of 0 the mountain division of the american red cross have come to the decision that in to equalize all the work done donea he allotment plan shall be used to productions of 0 the situation each chapter will be given i certain amount of 0 designated work to do and tile the time in which thich to do it will also be limited by way ot of ex ola olan atlon nation of the plan mr air john IV Nf morley orley manager of 0 the Maunt Alaun aln tain liv liviston islon has issued an open letter to ill members of 0 this division in which lie ie says sayi tile the wonderful work ot of red cross members throughout the country aias has resulted in such a tremendous production that the mills and manufacturing plants ot of the country have leen een unable to furnish sufficient raw materials to continue this constantly increasing production the result has been a more or less uneven reserve of finished arti articles cres and while there is an ample temporary supply of some items there is an actual shortage ot of other equally necessary the allotment and production ilan ian therefore is expected expect ea to control this production and provide a more even reserve stock and at the same time take care ot of actual current requirements in future tle the ro of red cross workers will be based upon requisitions made by led cross commissions in foreign countries orders received from the war and pavy navy departments slid and other lal sources 11 requirements will be bd met by national headquarters making allotments and furnishing to divisional headquarters sufficient supplies of raw materials to complete each allotment I 1 divisional headquarters in turn will allot the work and furnish the raw material to the several cha chapters P which will in turn su ballot ind and furnish material or instruct divisional headquarters to furnish the same to their branches and auxiliaries at present the supply ot of sweaters Is greater than the demand while the number of garments tor for women and children on hand Is tar far below the requirements quire ments this condition will now be remedied by the new allotment plan which will balance the output of the various materials A recent issue ot of the A R C rays the medium of the red cross explains in detail how the allotment of materials will lie cje out in part it says at the rate at which surgical dressings have been produced tile the sun su ily ly has licen constantly increasing jn and Is now at a point higher than estimates indicate as necessary for some months to coffie come this rapidly increasing production pro duclon has strained the capacity of 0 the manufacturers 0 of raw materials to such sn an extent that there has been serious difficulty in securing se sufficient gauze and other materials used in making dressings 0 the department of supplies Is working in close cooperation with the government to see that tian 0 of these materials are secured be tor for red cross cros s work all necessary orders have been placed with lie he manufacturers with every liell help hat bellat may mg y I 1 be le div given e n the situation 51 tuat 1 on by government priorities for a while there will still be delay in getting the material into some parts ot of the auntry ou but everything is being done 0 hasten deliveries it is hoped be ore long to have established regular deliveries to all sections each chapter will be asked to rodice definite supplies of certain articles irti cles these allotments avill allbe 0 be changed from time to time as further estimates of requirements are received from national headquarters each chapter is urged to confine production to these definite allotments alot ments and to obtain all materials through the division supply ware house chapters are also requested particularly ticul arly not to purchase P ur ellase through outside sources any of the materials carried in stock at the division ware house even though at times more expeditious ious deliveries may be hafi had through outside sources the reason tor for this request Is that the government has agreed to allow the american red cross to participate in ili its purchase of gauze cotton outing flannel and such staple materials at the prices paid by the government and on practically the same terms term of 0 delivery only with the specific un der standing that chapters refrain from outside purchases of these materials te rials this condition is imposed because outside purchases tend tc demoralize market conditions and make more difficult the governments task of regulating the manufacture and marketing of these staple mate rials |
