Show 0 UINTAH AND OURAY reservation the old uintah ouray reservation er lies in eastern utah in duchesne and uintah counties at the present writing we have no maps of a suitable mailing size the country lies directly east of salt lake city and is shown on the maps of the denver rio grande railroad the principal towns of the uintah basin being vernal roosevelt myton duchesne altonah alzonah Al tonah whiterocks hayden neola cedarview Ced arview leeton ft duchesne and randlett tho the country which was allotted to the indians and which is biow now being offered for lease or sale is about one half bench land and one half bottom land the soil varies from a heavy clay to a light loam and varies in depth from a few inches to many feet fifty or more it is covered with sagebrush rabbit brush clover sage greasewood and other growths and is very fertile some of the lands may be cleared plowed and leveled that is ia placed in a state ready for the seed for 4 per acre while it requires or 9 per acre acra to place in a similar state that land which is covered with heavier growth the principal hay crop is alfalfa two cuttings per year are made and the best crops yield about two tons per cutting other tame grasses are grown principally timothy and redtop red top wheat oats barley rye and other grains do well potatoes yield abundantly and of an excellent quality sugar beets and all manner of roots do unusually well many farmers are raising excellent crops of corn apples pears cherries plums peaches and g grapes M pes are raised in all parts of the basin twenty bushels of wheat and thirty bush els of oats is frequently raised on raw land land which has been in cultivation a few years yields more in ore abundantly all manner of garden vegetables may be raised in in abundance and no better bee section is found in the united states the lands which we are offering for lease and sale vary in altitude from to feet above sea level the summers are delightful the temperature falls occasionally as low as ten or fifteen degrees below zero but as there is no wind one would scarcely realize that it was cold the time between frosts varies from to days the annual rainfall on the agricultural land is ia approximately six inches dry farming is not profitable the basin is fairly well supplied with schools churches saw mills and grist mills there are numerous towns many stores in fact there is is no point on our reservation more than ten or twelve miles distant from town w and post postoffice lice office much of the round ground 9 is with coal and coal sells from 2 to 3 per ton the allotted land fend of which we are speaking is from forty to td seventy miles distant from rail road and there is a very bright what is the matter with the build into the basin in a very short time at the present writing if one desires to visit the uintah basin he should come in one of three ways if he desires to come in by railroad first by way of mack colo on the main line of the denver rio grande thence the uintah railroad to watson thence by daily dail y auto stage to al almost any part of the reservation second by helper utah on the main line of the denver rio grande v thence by daily auto stage to almost any part of the reservation third by craig colo on the denver salt lake railroad otherwise the moffat road thence by daily auto stage to vernal and other points A person purchasing or leasing our lands does not lose his homestead right for further particulars relative to lease and sale write or call upon albart H kneale supt bupt fort duchesne utah |
