Show BIG RAILROAD OFFICIALS C VISIT THE UINTAH BASIN newman erb president of the moffat road who was accompanied by the following officials W E moore general manager L D blauvelt superintendent and chief engineer W H paul general traffic and passenger agent A L averill joe wolf N E littenhoff Dit and lewis long arrived in roosevelt on sunday of last week they were on a tour of the basin and the party traveled in five autos A big truck was brought along to haul the commissary mis sary from denver to craig the trip was made over the moffat road at which point the autos were unloaded their trip was from craig to the K ranch thence to jensen vernal ft duchesne and roosevelt they only made a short stop here and proceeded on their way to salt lake there is no doubt that the extension of the moffat road from craig to salt lake depends entirely on the capitalists and business men of that city it was stated that work on the extension would be started this fall if the aid sought was secured from some of those capitalists and business men it is declared money can be raised and the bond issue taken up every one in the uintah basin hopes this is true while in salt lake they were in conference with such men as joseph F smith president of the mormon church C W nibley W W rither ohn john J C cutler R T badger goo geo T I 1 odell 0 C beebe W W armstrong frank knox E A wall chis chas S burton and john Pi neree the herald republican in an I 1 interview says in part as follows I 1 the building of the denver salt lake from craig to salt I 1 lake through the uintah basin depends on the salt lake cap capi i mr erb 1 I came camb through the greatest agricultural and min q i business men said ing section in the united states in inthe the past two days and it is a shame that it must remain un developed for the la lack ck of a rail road there is no other section of this country that is so rich as the uintah basin we ard are ready to buil the railroad iffe ran can get the money we are here ito to see the salt lake busin business businesses men and see what they will do I 1 I 1 want to say that if salt lake receives us right light and gives us aid the road will be built 1 I find a great return to prosperity 3 in the east railroad securities curi ties are coming back to their own the transportation lines of this country have been harassed by adverse legislation so long that a halt to it hasteen has been called by the people taking this as an opportune time we are going to appeal to salt lake to aid us in building a railroad through the richest country that lies out of doors I 1 have a plan which I 1 think will appeal to salt lake men denver has aided in the building of the road and now we are coming to salt lake to ask if the people here will not aid us in placing this city i in n touch to U eh with the richest part of utah 1 I am tired tiled and cannot discuss my plans tonight I 1 will ask for a meeting with the business men of salt lake and intend to have several if iti I 1 am permitted this road must be built in order to give salt lake access to the great territory there to the east and the sooner salt lake reali zes the importance of it the sooner this section will become the most prosperous in the west the trip was made by mr erb E rb and the officials of the denver salt lake for the purpose of checking up on reports made by charles green who was at the hotel utah for three months during thes pring the proposed route is from craig to provo and then into salt lake mr erb stated that the road will ultimately be built as it must have an outlet to the west and as developments in the western railroad situation one of the features of the trip is that mr erb came to salt La lake kewith with the direct purpose of beginning beg ining construction of the road this fall if the necessary support is offered by salt lake while he would not state that the building of the road next year depends entirely ort bil how salt lake receives his plans of financing the denver salt lake a number of 0 f the officials of the road expressed the opinion last night that if salt lake business men get behind the movement new york financiers and it was broadly hinted that it would be b the standard oil group would r see th that it the necessary bond issues are taken care of at this iame |
