In Roosevelt, with the local Kiwanis club taking the lead and all other groups joining in the affair, this city's elementary school grounds are now assured of additional playground equipment for your kids and mine to use in ) their play-I play-I commend Kiwanis and all cooperating organizations md business establishments who aided in the project for ' (heir fine support. You will never live to regret the invest-ment invest-ment you made in the youth of this community. s R s ML SHOULD BE ALARMED AT RECKLESS WAY SOME OF OUR YOUTH DRIVE? .... Last Sunday afternoon I happened to be walking south a Main street in Roosevelt when I was startled by shrieking shriek-ing brakes and skidding tires of an automobile. I turned aound expecting to see some kind of an accident, but discovered dis-covered immediately several teen-age boys in an automobile who had spun their car around in an intersection without warning to attract the attention of some girls who were crossing the street. Only for a moment did they talk to the girls, and then they were on' their way south in their car. Again all rules of sale driving were forgotten as they slammed on their brakes to stop abruptly in front of another vehicle traveling trav-eling the same direction. Luckily the truck was manned by i careful and cautious driver and he was able to manipulate manipu-late his vehicle around the car without an accident. Monday ni?ht I sat in on a regular meeting of the uayor and -city council where safety of our children occupied oc-cupied most of the night's deliberations of your chosen 'community leaders. They are seriously concerned about the very thing I have called to your attention in the first part of this comment in fact they are so concerned they had as a guest speaker Judge F. M. Alder of the juvenile court, those advice and counsel was sought in this matter. Judge Alder cited many cases where young boys and girls had lost their lives or had been responsible for the deaths and injuries of others, simply because they failed to recognize the need of observing traffic laws that are con-teived con-teived for their protection. He also challenged local police officers to "ride herd" on those who won't observe the law, and if they have ignored a previous warning to observe jlit law, to cite them into court, and if they are juveniles ii! will make a special trip to Duchesne county to hold urt. He promised that cronic violators would be dealt with according to the Denalty prescribed in the law. This business of safety on the highways is serious business, busi-ness, and your children and mine, as well as you and I sre going to be safe when riding or walking on our streets fid highways. The chap who wants to get killed, or kill . someone else, must be taken care of. Won't you take time out to talk to your boys and girls 'ho like to drive the family car. Impress upon their minds Hat they can have just as much fun if they drive carefully, ad they can be sure they will be around Monday morning l go to school. s R s MX THE NEWS IS NOT ON THE 0 FROST PAGES OF YOUR PAPER & t Quite often this request comes to the editor's attention, "I'd like to have this story on the front page." And we'd like to put all the news on the front page." And we'd like j Put all the news on the front page, but we can't So I'd je to make this statement and back it up with another: ALL the NEWS in the STANDARD is NOT on the front Page." The other statement I'd like to make is "Numerous veys have proven that ALL the NEWS In your hometown home-town NEWSPAPER is READ, no matter if it's on Page 1, z, 8 or 10." One other fact I'd like to establish "ALL the NEWS "jour LOCAL PAPER is NEWS about the UINTAH BASIN." s R s At Pisa, Italy, diggers came upon the remains of a r"y that dates back 150 centuries, to what could only mt been a Republican year. 30 |
