Show Santa's Visit Will Be By Plane Saturday Afternoon At Four Kiwanis Plans St. Nick's Appearance, Jaycees Report Street Lights Ready If the weatherman continues to give the Basin the balmy, spring-like weather through Saturday, Sat-urday, Santa Claus just can't make it with sleigh and reindeer, rein-deer, so plans made by the Roosevelt Kiwanis club . last night have things all fixed up for the jolly old chap to come by airplane. His schedule calls for him to arrive at the corner of Main and Lagoon streets at about 4 o'clock Saturday after-, noon, Dec. 16. j Previously an announcement had been made that Santa would arrive about 6 p. m. Saturday, but public sentiment against the later hour prompted the Kiwanis Ki-wanis club, which is in charge of his visit, to bring him by plane, thus making it possible for him to appear pver Roosevelt Roos-evelt at 4 Q'clpck, And as quickly quick-ly as the city's fire engine can get him here from the airport, he'll be on hand to greet all the kids of this area. The first visit of St. Nick will be without his pack of gifts, but he will return on Thursday, Dec. 21, at the elementary school, where all the kids in the area are invited to meet him again and this time receive a gift bag. This visit he will spend his time hearing all the kiddies tell him what they want the good old fellow to leave in their stockings Christmas night. Then, 1 if possible, he'll stick around long enough to pull the switch that will turp on the city's holiday hol-iday lights. - According to Robert Ferron, president of the Junior Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, which is in charge of the street decorations and lighting, the lights will go on at about 5:30 Saturday. By that time most of the business houses should have received their Christmas trees and have them decorated, According to Rev. Charles Ray, general chairman of the city's special Christmas committee, commit-tee, everything is moving along very smoothly and an outstanding outstand-ing program of actiities should be presented to and for the people. John. H. Blaine, principal princi-pal of the elementary school, and his faculty are in charge of the Dec. 21 program, and the LDS Relief Societies of the two Rooseelt wards are preparing' prepar-ing' the gift bags for presentation presenta-tion to the kids that night. One other added feature of Saturday's program will be the singing of Christmas carols on main street from about 3 p. m. until evening. The high music department, under the direction of David Watkins, will present a program of carol singing, and recordings will round out the program. J. D. Walker, Kiwanis president, presi-dent, is chairman of the Santa committee, and he reports that Rev. Ray will be the master of ceremonies Saturday afternoon. Mayor Homer P. Edwards stated that the city police department de-partment will cooperate with the program and during Santa's visit traffic will be routed on a side street to eliminate the hazard that always occurs where moving vehicles and people peo-ple throng on a main highway. |
