Show OBSERVATIONS $ By JAN. J Federal taxes paid by Bingham business have contributed a large part of the cost of construction t fine post office and federal buildings in all parts of the country coun-try but in Bingham we get a-long a-long wiih a made over grocery store for the transaction of Fed-, Fed-, ral business. The 'constitution c,f a Federal building here as soon i" possible will help in relieving the employment situation, ; therefor there-for in line with the policies : of our President. It is something to wieh Bingham business is surely eti.iUed although we could probably prob-ably get along indefinitely on the present basis. i Speaking of taxes, our legislators legisla-tors gathered solemnly in special session are going to propose am-o.'.dments am-o.'.dments to the constitution seeking seek-ing to increase the tax burden in Utah. On the other hand the federal government is working towards reduction of tuxes and accordingly we find that our income in-come lax rates have been reduced reduc-ed materially this year. This reduction will probably be offset by additional state taxes. We even wonder if it is not possible pos-sible by economy in th administration adminis-tration of state and loaftl government govern-ment to decrease instead of increasing in-creasing taxes. Centralization of taxing and assessment authority in a state iax commission, elimination elimin-ation of the county units, standardization stand-ardization ot assessment values throughout the state and enforcement enforce-ment of our present laws, would all help, probably be preferable to amendment of the constitution and more laws' Our' only street has been in a deplorable condition for the past o.onth and we are. , grateful 4or improvements made during the past week. In this connection we note the very excellent condition ir. which the st ate road .up to the city" or towif limits has oeeiT kept ail winter. Perhaps it would be better if all road work were handled by the state. Fred Turner is leaving Bingham. Bing-ham. Mr. Turner is going to raise alfalfa in southern California This is a distinct loss to Bingham Bing-ham as it will be a gain o California. Cali-fornia. We regret to see him go und we hope that he will find ,'uueh success and happiness in his new venture. |
