Show Death Changes Sex Of 76-Year Old Ute Indian Death this week solved the identity of an aged member of the Ute Indian tribe, who has lived in the Uintah-Ouray reservation for many snows, to be of the male sex, rather than a woman. As far back as any members of the tribe can remember Appa-Go-Witch has worn women's clothes, and everyone except immediate members of the family had considered con-sidered the 76-year-old Ute Indian to be of. the feminine sex. The record's of the tribe at Fort Duchesne Du-chesne had it that Appa-Go-Witch was a woman. However, Tuesday of this week, when Ted Olpin, manager man-ager and operator of the Olpin Mortuary was called to pick up the dead body, he discovered the supposed woman, who was wearing the attire of a woman, was not a female at all, but definitely was a male member of the tribe. Little information was available about the life of Mr. Appa-Go-Witch, except he has resided in this area mast all his life. He' is survived by a father, Douglas Appa-Go-Witch, and a sister, Mrs. Eu-gina Eu-gina Starr. He died' about 5 a.m. Tuesday. Graveside services were conducted conduct-ed today at 2 p.m. at the White-rocks White-rocks cemetery, where burial took place. Curiously enough Mr. Appa-Go-Witch was buried in wo- men's clothes. |
