Show Ashley Cattlemen Recommend Equal Rights For Range The Ashley cattle advisory board held its annual meeting at Vernal, February 13, and adopted adop-ted seven resolutions pertaining to Indian users of the forest lands; exempt livestock, trespass; common use; public lands and rustling. The advisory board, made up of representatives from each cattle association using the Ashley Ash-ley forest grazing lands, asked the full cooperation of the Forest Service, the Fish and Game Department, De-partment, and other agencies in an effort to curb rustling. Recent unexplainable cattle losses has occasioned considerable consider-able concern among livestock-men, livestock-men, and all efforts are being directed toward curbing rustling, rust-ling, which is suspected of being responsible for such losses. I The resolutions passed by the Ashley cattle advisory board are: (1) Joint Use of Range by Indians In-dians and While Permittees: That the distribution of stock , on the cattle and horse allot- ments on the south side of the forest for both Indian and White permittees, should conform con-form to the plan agreed upon by various assocations at their Roosevelt meeting in 1944.- (2) Exempt Stock: a. The Forest Service and the Advisory Board of the respective respec-tive cattle and horse associations associa-tions should determine the number of exempt stock need ed to handle and operate and the use under exempt privileges privi-leges should be confined to this number, b. It is also recommended that any domestic stock grazed on the forest under free use be covered by a permit, other- wise they should be handled by the forest officials as trespassing tres-passing animals. (3) Trespass: That active measures be tak-j tak-j en by the Forest Service to I eliminate trespass. (4) Common Use: Eliminate common use be- j tween classes of stock where practicable and allot the range to the class of stock for which it is best adapted. J (5) Wildlife: That the Forest Service make a careful study of the wildlife wild-life use, and provide for the necessary reduction and animal ani-mal kill of both sexes necessary neces-sary to properly stocking the wildlife range. (A representative represen-tative was selected to ride the range with forest officials, sportsmen, interested organizations organ-izations and individuals). I (6) Public Lands: ' Opposed the turning of public lands to private ownership. (7) Rustling: Requested the full cooperation coopera-tion of the Forest Service, State Fish and Game Department Depart-ment and other agencies to prevent loss of stock by rustling. |
