Show Ioiuigh Riders Fall Before Uintah Fire Unexpected Upset Places Uintah, Roosevelt On Even Terms with Four Crucial Games In Offing It was a sad day in Mudville when Mighty Casey struck out, but Mudville had nothing on Roosevelt following Wednesday night's cage encounter in which the mighty Rough Riders fell before Vernal. Undefeated, and with three more games to play in the scholastic schedule, Roosevelt Roos-evelt suffered its first loss at the hands of Uintah high by a score of 30-27. Roosevelt money was as easily picked up Wednesday afternoon as Dewey money was last October. Oc-tober. To loyal supporters of the Riders, a defeat seemed remote, in fact it was out of the question. ques-tion. It was not a run away victory by any stretch of the imagination. imagina-tion. At no time during the game did Uintah lead with a margin of safety which would permit coasting, but every quarter ended end-ed with the Vernal squad two to five points ahead of the locals. f i Roosevelt took the lead during dur-ing the opening minutes of the first quarter, but trailed Uintah 10-8 at the breathing spell. In the second quarter the cagers from the east end of the Basin jumped their score to 17 to outdistance out-distance Roosevelt by 5 points. The scene changed little in the third quarter, ending with the scoreboard reading 23-19. But in the closing stanza Uintah opened up to substantially boost its lead. Here, Coach Nelson called on the Rough Rider shock troops to stem the Vernal tide. The subs clicked and with "the minutes running out, cut the Uintah margin, ending the game with a 30-27 score. The Rough Riders, after playing play-ing ball throughout the season, could lose the championship, or win it, with these games, and Vernal stands in exactly the same position. Roosevelt produced an unusually high percentage of free throws, chalking1 up 11 out of 14.
