Mrs. Ellen Madsen of Altonan was visiting Dr. L. Miles Monday. Mon-day. Mrs. Harriett Todd is Visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Bracken. Nathan Hardy of Vernal was visiting at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Dillman Sunday. Marv L. Naylor of Gusher spent Monday evening in Roosevelt, Roose-velt, the guest of Mrs. R. T. Bonnin. Mrs. N. C. Mortensen of Eph-raim Eph-raim is visiting here with her daughter, Miss Marion Morten-sen. Morten-sen. Mr. and Mrs. Ormon Wilkins of St. George have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Al-ex Sullivan for the past week. Mrs. Fannie Todd, Mrs. George Bracken and son, S-Sgt. Karl Bracken spent one day last week visiting Mrs. Frank Hor-rocks Hor-rocks at Arcadia. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Harmston returned home Tuesday evening from Salt Lake City where Mrs. Harmston received treatment for an infected hand. Mr. and Mrs. Evans Phillips of Whiterocks were visitors at the home of Mr. Phillips' parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Phillips Thursday evening. Mrs. Reed McClellan and daughter returned to Roosevelt after being with her husband in Denver, Colorado where he has been stationed at Lowry Field as an instructor. Mjs. Lorell E. Roberts and children have just returned from an enjoyable two weeks visit with her hsuband who is stationed sta-tioned in the San Francisco Bay area. She also visited her sister, Mrs. Evan Williams at Vallejo, California. Mrs. Julia Owen who has been visiting with her sister in Salt Lake City and daughter in Idaho for the past few weeks, returned re-turned to her home Monday. Her daughter, Mrs". Laura Moncur of Idaho accompanied her here. Mrs. Owen has been confined to her bed with a very bad cold since her return. Mrs. Owen will be 89 years of age the 23rd day of this month. Visiting over the week end with Mrs. Mae Akin were her brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Hall, from Fair-bury, Fair-bury, Nebraska. Mr. Hall is an engineer on the Rock Island Railway. He reports the heaviest crop of corn that that state has ever had and some farmers are offering as much as 20 cents a hushel for husking the corn, while 12c is the average being offered. Roosevelt Camp D U P Meet The Roosevelt Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers met at the home of Mrs. Olive Harrison Friday afternoon with Mrs. Erma Labrum and Mrs. Clara Hanson and Mrs. Harrison as hostesses. Community singing was led . by Mrs. Tina Wilkins with Mrs. Clara Timothy at the organ; Mrs. Clara Hanson offered offer-ed the invocation; Mrs. Margaret Wiscombe reported n the County Coun-ty Encampment; Mrs. Myrtle Labrum read a life sketch of her grandfather enclosing some of his original writing in the sketch; sket-ch; Bernice Palfreyman sang two solos; Mrs. Mattie J. Edwards Ed-wards gave the lesson on "William "Wil-liam Clayton's Diary"; Mrs. Elsie Taylor pronounced the benediction. Mrs. Pearl Redmond Red-mond conducted the exercises and Mrs. Helen Howell, the pres-. pres-. ident, presided. Those present were Mrs. Tina Wilkins, Mrs. Gertrude Rasmussen, Mrs. Pearl Redmond, Mrs. Pearletta Workman, Work-man, Mrs. Elsie Taylor, Mrs. Mary Orser, Mrs. M. J. Edwards, Mrs. Myrtle Labrum and the hostesses. Relief Society Annual Conference Sunday evening at the Roosevelt Roose-velt Ward chapel, the Roosevelt Ward Relief society held their annual conference. Mrs. Jane Page, the president presided and announced the following program: pro-gram: Community singing led by Mrs. Cora Todd accompanied by Mrs. LaVerne Heiner; invocation, invoca-tion, Mrs. Margaret Wiscombe; song, quartet composed of Mrs. Norma Broadbcnt, Donna Rae Labrum, Frank Walker, and Av-ard Av-ard Rigby accompanied by Mrs. Etfie Wilde; message from Mrs. Page; sustaining of officers by Gertrude Rasmussen; vocal duet by Mrs. Helen Allred Wiscombe and Mrs. Mary Brady Larson accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Evelyn Ash-ton Ash-ton Schmiett; a musical reading by Mrs. Nedra Nickell accompanied accom-panied by the quartet and Mrs. Wilde; talk by Mrs. Florence Nielsen; vocal solo, Bemice Palfreyman Pal-freyman accompanied by Mrs. Heiner; talk, Mrs. Carina Swindle; Swind-le; talk, Bishop Horace J. FRIDAY BRIDGE Mrs. Hazel Ashton entertained the members of the Friday Bridge club at her home Friday evening. After the lovely lunch-con lunch-con was served, brige was played. HALLOWEEN PARTY About twenty little friends of Dickie Weiss were entertained at his homo by his mother, Mrs. Sam Weiss Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock. The garage was decorated deco-rated in halloween style with pumpkins, witches and lanterns. A bon-fire outside where wein-ies wein-ies were roasted and a lunch was served in halloween colors. Prizes were given to a number of the boys and girls for the best and funniest costumes. Fast-Manwaring Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Manwar-ing Manwar-ing have received word that! their son, Perry E. Manwaring 1 who entered the U S service some time ago and has been stationed sta-tioned at Los Angeles was married mar-ried to Miss Gene Fast, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Em-mctt Em-mctt E. Fast of Los Angeles, California. Perry will leave shortly for overseas and Mrs. Manwaring will remain in Los Angeles with her parents until his return. JUNIOR SOCIAL CULTURE CLUB The Junior Social Culture club met Monday evening at the home of LaRue Allred. Those present were LaVera Bellon, La-Rene La-Rene Alexander, Barta Jenkins, Elain Tuttlc, Dora Curry; Leah Allred, Amber Page, Jean Lit-ster, Lit-ster, LaVcrda Nelson, Merle Gines, Thora Yack, Ellen Rawl-' ings, Dora Griffin, Bliss El-1 dredge, Mary Larsen, Louise Peterson, Helen Burgess and the hostess. I Ladies Fish and Game Club The Roosevelt Ladies Fish and Game club held a very successful success-ful party Monday night under the direction of Miss Dicia Em-ert, Em-ert, assisted by Mrs. Esther Lambert Lam-bert and Mrs. Mabel Allen. The ladies met at the Lambert home, where fortunes were told and horoscopes read. Then they were taken to the home of Mabel Allen Al-len where they were greeted by witches and magic stew and weired stories cleverly given by 1 Mrs. Ida Wooten, in an appropriate appro-priate setting. After which a lovely lunch was served to 14 guests. New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Powell of Salt Lake City are the happy parents of a baby, born Tuesday, October 24 at the L D S hospital in Salt Lake City. It weighed 7 pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Powell are former residents of Roosevelt. Roose-velt. Neighborhood. Sewing Club The Neighb6rhood Sewing club met at the home of Mrs. Mabel Allen Wednesday night. After an evening of sewing, a delicious lunch was served to Mrs. Edith Laris, Mrs. Zada See-ley, See-ley, Mrs. Delight Andrews, La-Rue La-Rue Allred, Mrs. J. S. Rawlings, Mrs. Magratha Hall and the hostess. n Birthday Parly In honor of their son, Ray's 9th birthday, Mrs. Art Allen entertained en-tertained 14 guests last Saturday Satur-day afternoon. Games were played and lunch served to John Ruppel, Dick Weiss, Douglas Malin, Quin Corbridge, Barbara Swindle, Jack Burgess, Ffird Larsen, Keith Winterton, Albert Fairly, Kenneth Benson, Melba Benson, Don Snyder, Lyle Snyder Sny-der and Frank Snyder. Alterra Faculty Attend U E A The Faculty of the Alterra High school consisting of Ben-nie Ben-nie Schmiett, principal, Jess Hullinger, Mrs. M. J. Edwards, Mrs. Myrtle Lambert, Mrs. Frances Fran-ces Horrocks, Earl Bingham, Frank Walker, and J. Kitchen left Wednesday afternoon to attend at-tend the U E A held in Salt Lake City Thursday and Friday. MOVE TO SALT LAKE Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Johnson left last week for Salt Lake City where they will make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have made their home in Roosevelt Roose-velt for a number of years and their many friends regret to see them leave. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Draper took them out. Ray G. Labrum has purchased the Johnson John-son place. Birthday Honored Mrs. Alta Phillips was honored honor-ed by the Birthday club Thursday Thurs-day evening; Those present were Mrs. Margaret Wiscombe, Mrs. Olin Timothy, Mrs. Carrie Wills, Mrs. Arvilla Day, Mrs. Iva Sce-ley, Sce-ley, Mrs. Blanche Murphy, Miss Dicia Emert. Entertainment was arranged by a committee. STUDENTS FROM ROOSEVELT AT U OF U Five students from Roosevelt are now attending the University Univer-sity of Utah according to records at the registrar's office. They arc: Qucntin Kolb, sophomore; LaVora Mae Murray, freshman; Isabell Roller, freshman; Helen Walton, freshman; Arlene Wong a junior. Despite war time conditions, there are 3,000 civilian students and 300 army trainees in daily attendance at the state university. univer-sity. The next term, winter quarter, starts December 12. ELECTED TO OFFICE AT WASATCH Jane Larsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Larsen of White-rocks, White-rocks, who is attending the Wasatch Was-atch academy was recently elected elect-ed vice president of the Tiger-ettes, Tiger-ettes, girls' pep club. ROOSEVELT F F A ACTIVITIES The Harvester Dance was a very big success. Campaign for buying feeder calves is now on. We will buy calves about the 10th of November, Novem-ber, and put them on feed as soon as possible. These calves will be taken to the Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Live Stock show in Salt Lake City next June. Howard Allred has steers on feed and is going to take them to Ogden this November. We wish him luck and success at this show. HALLOWEEN DANCE BIG SUCCESS The Halloween dance at Victory Vic-tory Park Tuesday evening drew a large crowd and the prizes offered of-fered were as follows: 1st prize of $10 cash for best costumes was won by Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Wes-ley Jensen of Myton, representing represent-ing 2 black cats; second prize, 2 season tickets to Victory Park was won by Myrth Miller and Bob Ferron as bride and groom; 3rd prize, 2 season tickets was won by Bill Yack and partner of Neola, dressed as negroes. Residents Of Myton For 37 Years Mr. and Mrs. Anton Vcrholc of Myton were in Roosevelt Thursday making preparations for moving to Spring Glen, near Helper where their daughter, Mrs. Sam Fazzio lives. The Vcr-holcs Vcr-holcs have made their home in Myton for the past 37 years and their many friends wish them well in their new location, but regret their departure from the Basin. |
