Show BASIN BRIEFS Meeting Ai Elemeniary School J. Easton " Parratt, from the State school board office, will conduct a meeting at the Roosevelt Roose-velt elementary school, Saturday, Satur-day, October 5, at 9 a. m. The purpose of the meeting will be to explain the proposed tax amendments and how they effect ef-fect the school districts. Mr. and Mrs. Axel Birch and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Halen visited in Salt Lake City over the week end. T-Sgt. Duane Bracken recently returned to the States after serving serv-ing in Tokyo, Japan. He is now stationed at Camp Beale, California. Cali-fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Woodie Marshall I are the proud parents of a baby eirl born Friday evening at the (Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City. - Miss Janie Larsen, daughter of Jay D. Larsen, of Neola. has enrolled in Westminster co11pp, and is living in Ferry Hall, the women's dormitory. She has been chosen a member of the girls' glee club. Sugar Stamps Anyone desiring blanks for making application for sugar stamps are required to contact Val McClellan at the USES office of-fice in Roosevelt. Mr. Ed. S, Rich, former owner of the Uintah Basin Record, was in Roosevelt last Saturday on business. He plans to continue drilling onerations on his holdings hold-ings in Pleasant Valley within the next few weeks. Dan Mitchell returned from Provo Wednesday with a brand new road patrol for the Roosevelt Roose-velt area. Bob Sather made a trip to Denver this week to meet his grandmother, Mrs. L. Rown. of Minnesota. She will return with Bob for a few week's visit with relatives here and at Vernal. Blue Cross Applications All applications for Blue Cross membership and for re-enrollment must be made prior to October 15. Persons interested should contact Mr. Eldredge at the Roosevelt hospital. Mrs. Pat Markev is visiting her daughter. Mrs. Marion Black, at Boerne. Texas. She will probably prob-ably spend the winter there. Fall From Horse Injures Alionah Man Austin Beebe met with a serious ser-ious accident Fridav morning at the Dry Gulch Cattle Ass'n round-up when he was pulled from his horse by an animal he had roped. Emergency treatment was rendered and Mr. Beebe was moved to the Roosevelt hospital Saturday morning. He was released re-leased from the hospital Sunday. Mrs. Elmer Eldredge left Tuesday to meet her husband in Salt Lake City. Mr. Eldredge arrived ar-rived in the United States September Sep-tember 18 from Tokyo, Japan, where he was stationed with the First Cavalry Unit. Dorothy Dillman left last week to attend the Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural college at Logan. She was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Ray E. Dillman, her brother, broth-er, Earl Dillman, and herWster, Mrs. Paul Lunt. Mrs. Paul Lunt and small son returned to their home in Poca-tello, Poca-tello, Idaho last week after visiting visit-ing for the past month with Mrs. Lunt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Dillman. Mrs. Ada Jesse and Mrs. Phoebe. Phoe-be. Dowell, sisters of Thco Phillips, and Mrs, Alzada Will-mott, Will-mott, a niece, all of Springville, spent the weekend visiting at the Phillips home. 9 Mr. and Mrs. Ted Phillips spent a few days last week visiting visit-ing in Roosevelt at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theo Phillips. They returned to Ogden Sunday. 4-H Club News The Mischief Makers Club of Roosevelt attended the County Fair at Duchesne, chaperoned by Marie Benson. Mary Lee Morten-sen, Morten-sen, Kathryn Rudy and Juanita Gleaton took first prize for their casserole dish demonstration. They also entered competition at the Utah Slate Fair. The Myton 4-H Model Club met at the Church, Saturday afternoon, af-ternoon, where the girls presented present-ed a fashion show for the entertainment enter-tainment of their mothers. Prizes were awarded to Wilda Fay Robinson, Lorcli Howells and Francis Funk. The 4-H Model Mod-el Club is justly proud of having received first prize at the State Fair for their clothing di?j3lay. George Searle returned Sunday Sun-day after visiting two weeks in Salt Lake City with his daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Thelma Beale. and with his son, George Searle. While in Salt Lake Mr. Searle attended the funeral services for two former Uintah Basin residents, resi-dents, R. S. Collette and Vivian Spears. Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Edwards Ed-wards returned Thursday from Denver where they attended a four day convention of the National Na-tional Insurance agents. Arthur L. Burton, former Dresident and owner of the Sterling Transportation Co., was transacting business in Roosevelt Roose-velt on Tuesday and Wednesday. |
