Show FARMaidHOMEte UTAH STATIC EXTENSION SEKVICK AGJUCULTUfiB BOUS ECONOMICS By Louis A. Jensen County Agricultural Agent Winter time is a season usually us-ually accompanied . by many accidents. ac-cidents. There are numerous hazards which are not present during other seasons. I would like to point out a few helpful hints suggested by the Utah Safety Council. Inspect your heating equipment equip-ment thoroughly. See that flues and exhaust pipes are firmly connected to the chimney outlet. A furnace looks like a harmless piece of equipment in the home, but if not handled correctly it can easily explode. Keep clothing cloth-ing and little children at a safe distance from all heating units. Allow plenty of time to make appointments. Hurry can be very disastrous on slippery roads or sidewalks in winter weather. Keep entrances and walks clean. A little saner or ashes may save a serious injury. Be aware of flamable fabrics. Some Clothing, when caught on fire, can blaze up and inflict severe se-vere burns before you can extinguish ex-tinguish or smother the flames. The Christmas tree can be a real fire hazard. The entire tree and its trimming can be made perfectly per-fectly safe by spraying with a simple home-made solution of 10 ounces of boric acid dissolved in one gallon of water. This does not affect the colors and is not harmful. Christmas tree lights should always be turned off when the family leaves the house. A little care in helping to prevent accidents acci-dents will reward in a more enjoyable en-joyable holiday and winter season. |
