Show Local Musicians Named To Compete In National Event Five students will represent the Roosevelt High school in Salt Lake City on March 30 to April 2 at the meeting of. the California - Western conference of musicians. Laurel Snyder, a member of the RIIS band has been named to play in the all state band which will be directed by William Wil-liam Rcvelli of the University of Michigan. While four girls from the local school will take part in the all-state chorus, a group numbering about 400 students. The chorusters are: Gertrude Page, Betty Jo Sprouse, Evelyn Gilbert and Mary Leavitt. The California-Western musi cians conference will be one of six such meetings to be held throughout the United States. From these musical sessions participants par-ticipants will be selected to compete com-pete in Detroit at the national conference next year. Rehearsals are scheduled to start in Salt Lake beginning March 30, to be climaxed by a concert in the Tabernacle on April 2. Taking part in the Salt Lake concert will be the assistant as-sistant director of the renowned Fred Waring's Pennsylvania chorus, a nationally known opera star, and a California symphony orchestra. |
