Show Organlzatlon-Of Boys' Club A ccorded A II Qui City Support i Enthusiasm Marks Initial Meeting To Discuss Plans The opening gun in the organization organ-ization of the Roosevelt Boys' club was sounded Monday night at a meeting attended by 112 boys and their dads. Held in the old music building at the Elementary Elemen-tary school, which is being converted con-verted into suitable quarters for the club, the purposes and- proposed pro-posed administrative set-up were explained by representatives of the Roosevelt Fire department, sponsors of the project. Club membership will be divided di-vided into two groups, based on school grades. One group will be made up of boys from the 1st through the 8th grades: and the other of members from the 9th through the 12th grade and older. old-er. The club is to be administered by a president, vice president, secretary and two directors from each of the age groups. An adult will be appointed treasurer. Membership will be $1 a year, and the membership roster was started Monday night by the enrollment en-rollment of Craig Pack as the first paid member. Meeting nights have been set as Monday for the older group and Friday for the younger boys, commencing on March 7. A joint organizational meeting has been scheduled or Monday, March 14, at 7 p. m. when officers of-ficers will be elected. Athletic activities of the Boys' clubwill .be directed by,. Karl , Hacking as instructor of boxing; " Bob Fuelling, assistant boxing instructor and director of calisthenics. cal-isthenics. Should plans materialize material-ize for construction of a swimming swim-ming pool, Fuelling will also instruct in-struct in this sport. Hollis G. Hullinger will direct the wrestling wres-tling program. Persons who have particular talent in any sport are invited by the club sponsors to volunteer their services. George E. Stewart acted as chairman at Monday's meeting, with Verlend Nelson serving as secretary. Work on the old music building build-ing is progressing, a ring has been set up and two punching bags installed. The complete revamping re-vamping of the building to make it adequate as a club headquarters headquar-ters awaits the permanent organization or-ganization of an administrative body. That the long needed youth project was meeting with public enthusiasm was in evidence Wednesday when contributions poured in to help finance it. Even Ev-en from upper-country communities, commun-ities, interest was manifest, and contributions were offered. |
