Show Davis Prepsters 3 Claim Top Places In Prestigious Davis High Meet By DAVE WIGHAM Clipper Sports DAVIS -- Although Alta walked away with the boys team trophy and Clearfield won the girls division divi-sion it was a good meet for several local athletes in the two day Davis High Invitational. EACH YEAR this prestigious meet is a gauge for the top clubs and individuals in class 4A as all the top teams and athletes make it a Point to compete in the meet. Alta wn the boys division with 85 Points with the next four places Pomg to Davis County schools. Uearficld was second with 80 followed fol-lowed by Viewmont 64, Davis 58 "nd Lay ton at 50. In the gals division Clearfield rde the legs of Stephanie Clements Cle-ments and Laura Zaugg to pile up '' points to easily outdistance Alta no had 80. Layton was eighth in event while Viewmont was Hth. All three were close but Troy Vea-ly Vea-ly of East won, he also won the 100 and the Outstanding Male of the meet, with Warner right behind him. THE OTHER points in the individual indi-vidual events came on the legs of junior Con Fox who finished a strong fifth in the 800 meters, he was less than two seconds behind the winner in this close race. Viewmont had to shuffle their sprint relay team for this meet due to injuries to a couple of their runners run-ners but the team of Kirk Tidwell, Greg Sharp, Tom McDunough and Jon Warner still managed to capture cap-ture second place being narrowly defeated by Layton. COACH LYNN DuBois knew he had a good medley relay team for this event and they didn't disappoint dis-appoint their coach as Greg Sharp, Kirk Tidwell, Tom McDonough and Mike Allen took the event in a time of 3:40 which was two full seconds ahead of second place Olympus. GIRLS MEET Amy Titensor of Viewmont enjoyed en-joyed a good two day meet as she came up with a first in the shot put and then a fourth in the discus to put the Vikings 14 points on the board. AMY CAME up with a throw of 34'9'2" to claim the shot title by three inches over an Alta gal. She then went 102'6" to place fourth in the discus, this was only five feet short of the winning toss. Bountiful's fine junior sprinter Shannon Fillmore picked up the Braves point in this meet with her sixth place showing in the 400 meter event. Shannon was clocked in 1:01.35 in earning her ribbon. IT SHOULD be mentioned that two of the top contenders in the area were unable to compete in this event. Jenny Miller of Viewmont w as involv ed in a play at the school and missed her field events while Elizabeth Taylor, the fine runner from Woods Cross, was out with a leg injury. |
