Show revision of selective service regulations revision of selective service regulations ions as a result of the medili i cation of army requirements now I 1 will permit induction of many registrants who had been barred from military training because of convictions vict ions ot law violations national headquarters selective service system announced today the changes have been made n the regulations which define class clas IVF IV F physically mentally or morally borally no rally unfit they remove the Iz sweeping weeping disqualification of all registrants who had been convicted of any crime which under the laws of the jurisdiction in which they were convicted is a felony this thih lanned L from military service many men because of youthful violations of if the law which were felonious in their states but are not generally classed as such the revised regulations now ban specifically i only those law violators who 1 have been convicted of certain heinous crimes 2 have been convicted on two or more occasions of offenses which come under the generally accepted definition of a felony 3 are chronic offenders with pronounced criminal tendencies and nave been convicted on at least three occasions of offenses punishable by jail sentences or 4 I 1 are being retained in the custody of any court of criminal jurisdiction 1 ti 10 or other civil authority the heinous crimes named are treason murder rape kidnapping arson sodomy pandering any crime involving sex perversion or any crime involving ill eagal dealing in narcotics or other habit forming drugs the provision concerning debar rient of any registrant who has been convicted on two or more occasions of an offense which comes under the generally accepted definition of a telony specifies any offense for which chich he could have been punished by death or confinement tor for a term exceeding one year in a penitentiary 1 or p prison rison but excludes conviction f for r an offense committed in violation of the selective training and service act of 1940 or the regulations prescribed pursuant thereto with regard to registrants who tire are being de detained bained in custody of a court of crim criminal inal jurisdiction or other civil authority the revised regulations brov provide ide that in the event such court or other civil authority releases such registrant from custody upon final adjudication or otherwise such registrant may be reclassified I 1 irrespective of these specific provisions concerning law violators the regulations as amended also provide that any registrant who is found to in be morally unfit for military service shall hall be placed in class IVF IV F together gether with any registrant who is found after physical examination to be physically mentally unfit for military service class IVF IV F also includes any registrant who has been dishonorably discharged from the army navy marine corps or coast guard or lias has been discharged because of un or of habits or traits ot of character |
