Show Stonecreek Stake To Sponsor Messiah Sing-In Sunday, Dec. 4, the Bountiful Bounti-ful Stonecreek Stake will hold its first Messiah Sing-In. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Stonecreek Stake house at 990 N. 100 W. FOR THOSE who are unfamiliar un-familiar with this kind of event, the sing-in is an unrehearsed performance of Handel's "Messiah" with the audience singing the chorus parts. Any and all who enjoy the oratorio are welcome to join. The G. Schirmer score will be used, and if you do not have one there will be copies available for your use. Soloists include Evelyn Harris, Marilyn Humphries, Harold Drawe, and Dr. Merrill Wilson. Royce Twitchell will accompany at the piano with Cheryl Densley assisting at the organ. Jean Davies will conduct con-duct the chorus. EVELYN Harris, soprano, is chairwoman of the private vocal area and a full-time faculty fa-culty member in the music department de-partment of Weber State College. Col-lege. She teaches vocal pedagogy, pedag-ogy, group voice, basic accompanying, accom-panying, vocal repertoire and is the director of the Weber State Singers and assistant conductor of the Weber State Concert Choir. She has conducted con-ducted seminars at Ricks College Col-lege and in Boise, and is frequently fre-quently ad adjudicator at the Utah State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. Marilyn Humphries, alto, is the founder of the Murray Symphony Chorale. She is a member of the Tabernacle Choir and has performed with the Utah Opera Company, the Salt Lake Opera, Promised Valley Playhouse, and in Albuquerque Albu-querque in such works as "Amahl and the Night Visitors," Visi-tors," "Hansel and Gretel," and "The Mikado." Mrs. Humphries has also performed with the BYU Symphony Orchestra, Carbon College Symphony and has experience with such works as Bach's "Magnificat," Handel's "Messiah," Mendelssohn's "Elijah," and Mozart's "Requiem." HAROLD Drawe, tenor, was a singer from birth. He soloed as a child in Germany, participating in both operatic and church music. He studied in Germany with Prof. Weing-art, Weing-art, a noted teacher and musician. musi-cian. Mr. Drawe moved to Canada where he was affiliated with a religious group which performed over the radio. He sang with the Tabernacle Choir for four years and also with the Southern California Mormon Choir. Mr. Draw is currently a technician at Lake-view Lake-view Hospital. Dr. Merrill Wilson, bass, is a well-known cancer surgeron, and has been president of the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society. He has sung with the Tabernacle Choir for 18 years and is the assistant conductor of the Jay Welch Chorale. Dr. Wilson has performed per-formed with the University of Utah Opera Workshop, the Promised Valley Playhouse, the Utah Opera Company, and recently gave a recital in Salt Lake City. ROYCE Twitchell received her early training in the California Cali-fornia Bay area and majored in theory and composition at Brigham Young University. She became a professional pianist while still in her teens working at the Sacramento Music Circus. She later held positions at Valley Music Hall, Utah Valley Opera Association, Associa-tion, Brigham Young University, Univer-sity, University of Utah Opera and the Utah Opera Company. She is currently accompanist and coach for Utah Opera Company. |
