Show BEET GROWERS IN SESSION committee appointed to a go to ogden attitude of beet growers to be placed in right light to the amalgamated company there was a lively meeting g of the executive committee of the sevier county beet growers held in the court house last friday the object of 0 the meeting was to consider the report of the special committee relative to the decision of the amalgamated amalgam cited company that there would be no sugar factory erected in this county this bear there was considerable warmth developed in the meeting over the action of R A lowe lone a member of the executive committee who was reported to have written a letter to the utah haho sugar company in which he was alleged to have said that the sentiment of the beet growers of this county was in favor of that company in preference to any other company in the erection of a sugar factor for this county chairman clark presented the telegram from daid eccles in which he advised the committee triet the negotiations between the two companies had been concluded and the amalgamated had decided not to come into this county this season with their oregon factory W H asked i if there was any further information as to the nature of the negotiations between betseen the two companies and asked that any further information on the subject be presented to the meeting g chairman clark called upon R A lowe to tell what he kne of the negotiations mr lowe stated t that at he knew nothing of 0 the transactions or r occurrences at the meeting between the two com paines but that he understood that he be was of writing a letter to the utah idaho company which had some gome beiring on the result he acknowledged that he be had bad written to them concerning some misunderstanding as to an alleged meeting between mr eccles and mr cutler and that he had asked for further information as to the facts in that case but he did not believe his letter had caused any trouble secretary hood was then asked to give the gist of a telephonic conversation he had bad had with mr eccles relative dative to the matter he stated that he had called mr eccles on the phone to learn of the result of the meeting between the two cOmPa co lives which was to decide definitely whether sevier county would get a factory this season or not mr eccles stated that at the meeting of the two companies held last monday the matter had bad been di thoroughly the utah idaho compan claimed the right to this territory because they had induced beet growing here and had continued in this until it had bad reached its ita present state of cf perfection this year the company had refused other districts acreage in order to provide this bunty with increased acreage that they had made arrangements with the railroad company for better f in handling the crop and had expended a lot of time and energy predating predan ng for this years crop they felt they were entitled to this territory for the work of the past in bringing about the present state of beet culture the amalgamated represented that that company had bad been approached by the beet growers I 1 rep from sevier levior county and that the people were demanding a factory that company had a factory in oregon for which they were seek me inz a desirable location this county was read readi for a factory the people wanted it and were willing to support one and ant they had desired the amalgamated to come in with a fee factory tory the utah idaho representatives at the meeting disputed the statement that the people here hinted the amalgamated to come in here and in support of that athly jf pulled I 1 a letter on the ogden men from R A lowe a member of 0 the executive committee of the beet growers grower in which he declared that the sentiment of the P people 0 pie was for the utah idaho company to stay in this field this so bo worked on mr air eccles ind his representatives represent stives that they did net continue the fight mr thought that the letter was waa very unfair to the am ilga mated pecole as thel the had ben been be n lead to believe that the people here wanted them to come in with a factory the letter from mr lowe had the effect of leaving them nothing to stand on upon this presentation of the matter there wai a general discussion and W H C B greenwood J E magleby joseph H jensen and secretary hood expressed themselves strongly on the matter of any correspondence spon dence being carried on relative to sugar factory matters others other than the official bi the chairman and secretary through it all mr loe sat ane anc hid h id no excuses or apologies to macd I 1 relative to cn dim of the letter ane the contents thereof he was asked disked to rive give his version of why h had sent ent the letters and he explain explainer ee that there was a dispute as to a ing which had been reported to h chiv hiv lv occurred between cutler ane eccles but this wis was shown to davd arisen on the day affet the letters had been written mr lowe said he ha did not believe thit that the letter had any effect that it WAS wag only being used a as an excuse but he still offered no apologies for his actions action although he agreed to make a statement to be presented to the amalgamated people that his letter was not an official statement and that he nas as not authorized to make an any statements for the committee the minutes of the monroe meeting were red read which contained a strong 1 d I n me aaion of the interference wi h the plans and urged that a committee be delegated to go to ogden and place the matter right before the amalgamated company and to refute the statement that the people of this county had a preference for the utah idaho company but that their preference was for the company which would come in here with a sugar factory there was a sentiment among the beet growers present that no contracts be entered into until this committee gets a chance to send bend a message from this was opposed by hans christensen of lichfield w atho ho said he believed that do no good to send a committee and as his land vis s all ready lor for beets he believed that those who desired to should be free to contract for acreage lie he also stated thit he still had vonti onn denee dence in the utah idaho company and beli believed evea that thib company would be the one to erect a factory in sevier county counts several of the delegates present opposed this idea and urged all the districts to stand together and refuse to contract aLt acreage until the arnal amal a mated company could be seen neen and the matter of the attitude of the deet growers placed before the company ral joseph and monroe all aliat their districts were pre prepared parea to lu stand pdt pat on the proposition e even en to the extent of not planting any ally beeta beet this reason beason they were agreed that the time had arrived for the beet growers to abbert themselves as to what should and what should not be done each representative stated that the farmers had been able to live without beets and could do so again mr christensen and W C B orrock contended that instead of sending a delegation to ogden that the matter could be presented by correspondence pon dence and at the same time the beet beai growers should be ready tc sign ul with the utah idaho company when the representatives appeared ibis sentiment was strongly opposed it was reported that the austin brothers representing represent ng the utah idaho company would be here on monday to meet the beet growers and to sign up contracts the meeting decided that the growers should have a voice in fixing the time of the meeting and it was decided to hold field the me meeting tating on wednesday at 1 it was also decided to hold a committee meeting on the same day at 11 ahe motion made by mr bowman to the effect that no contracts be made for or beet raising until after next wednesdays meeting was carried with only one dissenting vote that of hans christensen who voted in the negative the matter of whether the beet growers of the county should enter into contracts if any of the towns were acreage was discussed central monroe and joseph took the stand that the blet beet growers should stand together and should nut not contract acreage unless the entire county was included in the contracts there was no action on this matter at this meeting but it promised to be a live ques tion before contracts were entered nto into R A lowe addressed dressed dd the meeting and tried to justify his action in writ inz ing to the utah marto idaho LOM company pally Us el cl timed that the amalgamated company had beet been unable to secure consent to come in here and they had to find an excuse and had shouldered it on to him he offered no excuses nor a apologies po logies arid and he then offered his re sign sigrid lion tion from the committee which was quickly accepted A statement ement was drawn up as aa follows fol lovs to be presented to the
