Show MIKADO IS BIG SUCCESS local singers and orchestra make hit sullivans well known work gets splendid treatment at hands hand 3 of local company the local opera company made a decided hit with the production product io n of the mikado which was presented last saturday and monday lightb it was w as a strictly amateur production and sullivans Sull Sulli nans splendid music and the satirical libretto received splendid treatment at the hands of the local players it was very satisfying to the two big audiences which witness ed the performances and is pronounced uric by all to be the best amateur production ever staged here rhe costumes and make up of the chorus ind and principals was all that could be desired and the wealth of japanese lanterns added to the stig e setting letting in the choruses there was a de dc aided crispness and tone tune and attack would have been creditable to any organization the voices were vere well mel bal balanced need and there was nevera never a moment of nci in attacking ithe the various arious numbers num tiers the singing and acting af ting of the chorus was splendid in the prine annc pal roles mr jones as the lord high executioner J M peterson as lord high everything t Lvery thing else jonathan lloyd as true wandering minstrel lover dr mcgreogor as the mikado and roy horne home as a 2 japanese noble were all well suited to their various arious roles and each acted as naturally as though stage work was their particular work thira was no stage fright and their singing and dancing was as v veil ell done as mann trai elling s present mrs arb vinnie Ris mussen made an excellent yum yum yom and allis hazel baker and liura laura L iura ogdan were side alile assistants assistant b in the characters of the sisters of yum yum yom miss aliss jeanette jones had a difficult rule role in th part of katisha but she was equal to it grave i A splendid LO the part the sniping of the entire company was above the average the orchestra is entitled to a laret share of the credit of the perform anee ance they supported the singers in an admirable and capable manner neer overshadowing shadowing oer oNer the voices but alvas there with nth the necessary sup port and the rendition of the opening overture oer ture was exceptionally well done it would be hard to find a more capable compaan of singers anti anil instrumentalists in iny any of the towns of the state outside of the een renters the performance will net something like for the tabernacle fund the opera house manager mr earnest was extremely reasonable in his rental of the house he realized that the company was giving all its time and talent to the benefit of the tabernacle and he h c generously croul contributed his share in the concessions he made to the company should other operatic performances perform inces be attempted here the local will receive cill all the support 5 |
