unworthiness to re present presen t the parents class cities on th a occasion and on oil the very ery important abject religious training in the home bonne I 1 desire th it I 1 trial ina have lour sympathy and the spirit ot of god to aid me in controlling and expressing a few humble thoughts our parents class has been instituted for the education and good of the parent that they mal ma come together cich c ich sabbath fathers father and mothers to learn of and discuss w ways y sand and means col for the education controlling and betterment of our children it is often the ease case that each one bens I 1 s the subject from a different light and each speaks freely their sentiments aith ith out any disrespect to those who view it differently in this thin w in 11 mana valuable alu able thoughts are brought out and helpful suggestions given 1 I still ill not endeavor endea or to treat the lesson a ai outlined in oar guide book as that calls tar far a discus aion as to the best method to gain best results I 1 will vill only briefly touch on the im of uch such home hoine tri inin that it is the most moat trill ort int of all home train ings I 1 expect lou ou all to concede athis this bemuse bei use lit it is jo to development and training of character har acter ind and virtues ne ceesar esar to an upright life upon earth and belief in and dependence depend ance in god and eternal saha a a tion in the life to come there are as many man ways of doing this as there are parents cind and homes as rarely two tio hom homes es are conducted alike but the end arrived at should be the same and should be much higher than we ve can call hope to reach that we e may ever eer be striving string upward god has placed parents parent here on earth as his and given children of his for their angelic keeping and preparation what a 3 sublime po ebion and hl he has given us a most perfect plan to follow isep bi step tu to a perfect life then for it is the pi thoroughly understand the go eo pel and the teach ings of our saviour unto salvation and to leep the commandments of the lord in our homes father and mother being united in this be pure of speech not bearing lale fae witness against our neighbor in fact f let ach birg to all principles that make for of heart for the lord upon the heair they must be what hat they desire their children to be they must ind practice in their daily daill lues lives all the N virtues nee asay essay to salvation everl ever prin ciple of the sermon on the mount and the ten commandments for the latter day saints believe that civic ii ib as necessary to our sahi tion as religious fidelity for our religion is a seven day not dot a one dav religion we cannot in this as in many of other her educational repe respects ct leave this s training to others and expect desired dc arld results let et there are many parents who abu do this and expect an hour ind a half at sabbath school an hour and an d a half at meeting with an occasional pr preaching taching at home to do it all while thel omit prayer the blassnig bles snig on the food lose no opportunity to point out the faults of or laugh at the eccentricities of their teachers and leaders who prefer to spend the sabbath day dal in slovenly idleness while they force their children to church by this home negligence the child is impressed with the idea that sabath religion or worship is good for thy the child away from home bome but not at all at the home or for the parent such opposing opp precepts away from the home and the exam example at home soon disgusts the child and makes it suspect a lack of sincerity anywhere then there is the self right righteous parent who preaches and preaches who w ho understands line upun upon linel line precept upon n precept who never in the course of I 1 life fe made one mista mistake kc who claims to know too that the men and women called to take the lead in the church affairs are not capable or honest in their calling ard and they will not live their religion mccanse of the unworthy leadership my dear friends religious training means more than home preaching more than a sunday lesson away from home it is acting out each cach day within the walks of the home every precept of the gospel gopel go pel of chri it t A grave crave responsibility ret on p rents by the great force of it hibit abit and example in ltha the home I 1 ou may be ible to teach precept with gitil great ernestne gs of soul but if your lour chamle is opposed opp 0 sed it has little influence or weight for good we should teach by example a perfect belief and an abiding trust in god we should deih teich that we can approach him in tn tion for divine aid in each days labor and that wo 0 should express our gratitude each night forth his hi 8 protection and for all blessings and express thanks arid and ask k blessings upon the food fery member of the family should not onla be taught to do this but should be required to take their turn in this home training the youngest child up to six sit icara will 1 wn soon learn to express at an I 1 acceptable prater again I 1 would emphasize that bl b your example keep before the children A seven di d religion by inting justly reverent reverently lv ind and purely an original nil some time ago commenting on what mormons cormons are aid it is significant to note that vou nou ner see cc a mormon in the poor house and ge reely ever eer in jail thit th it is in e cadence of the so cien en din di religious I 1 ous t training r aaning of the latter da daj 3 saints to abhor dishonest 3 lying thieving thie mg idleness adultery and every crime po possible ible to man mail is the religion of the true saint I 1 might go on oil recounting ma man 3 things thing that leave their influence for good or bad among the children the literature they read the entertained in the home probably leaves the deepest impre impressions ions hence a c ireful direful choice should be made in these hese children Childr cn under ten ire era er able to every influence some children possess natural religious feelings which others do not to those it is the more nece to guide them unconsciously but do not attempt to do it by ore preaching aching them to tn deith or pointing lo intine rg out to them their foults let lour our motives be pure nd ind high for or a eh ch id read
