Show THE CALLS HONESTY the salina call comes back at the reaper with the yelp of a whipped cur in its last issue and it intimates that the re greiper iper has been conducting a fight against the present county officials it also intimates that we have implied anat the present officials are dishonest in their administration of county affairs now the only thing said about the present officials by the reaper was a plea that the purchases made by the county officials should be given the county business houses in this therall the Call agreed with the reaper and now it virtually says we were both wrong as it thinks the county officers can do no wrong the call man gives vent to some blither ine ina idiocy as to the reaper having been built up on county official pat conage if the reaper depended on the patronage patio nage of some of these officials we would have been out of business long since nay I 1 nay mr call editor you are IN welcome elcome to all the p pit it conage you will get from some of the present aspirants for official sion witness the fate of the richfield sun which by all precedents should hive have been awarded a lot of support from the official having the distribution of printing contracts did I 1 the sun get them the edit editor of that paper worked long and valiantly to place in office men who would support him by official pi p ask the sun editor what patronage he received so mr call man go in and praise the man who sends bends out of the county for nearly all supplies that he furnishes the county offices As to that skelton bid the reaper editor explained to the call man when he was in richfield RILl ifield recently trying to lease the sun plant and move to richfield just what the facts were in that bid skelton and company tiled to induce the manager of the reaper to enter into an agreement whereby the reaper would stay out of the bidding and let skelton get the work of the election supplies and for that courtesy the reaper would be given 25 per cent and do nothing for it at that time mr skeletons tona tons price for cor the election supplies was to tie be 12 per election district or for this county the manager of the reaper refused to be a party to any such scheme and told mr skelton so BO the reaper was bidding on all the counties south of here and we offered to do the work for the same price we ve were doing it for wayne and kane counties on close figures the reaper could do the SUD supplies plies for 9 per district skelton placed his bid at 6 65 55 which is just the actual cost of material and his object was to defeat the reaper he was awarded the printing and the county received rec eivid its printing for about half what it would b inac ive cost coat hid the manager of the reaper been endowed with the cupi cupidity dit which the call man displayed in a certain criminal c se in silina not many months since the call says the reaper is grafting on the county A report came from salina not long iong since of a transaction by which the call man wis was to assist in keeping facts suppressed as to the birth of an illegitimate child chik and which stirred that community as nothing else has ever done was that grafting the te call in its gibben gibbe rings sas that it is out for honest business Is ib the affair just mentioned honest business if to so the call is welcome elcome to it while the call editor was in richfield last week trying to lease the sun plant he was present when a package of legal notices anent proposed amendments to the constitution was turned over to the editor of the reaper for publication as the sun had gone out of business and become one with the greiper and the reaper was naturally the allce alt ce where the suns business should go the call mans eyes nearly popped out of his head bead at sight of so much business getting past highe III hiie said to one of the reaper force that he believed he could get that business if he be went after it on the next day at noon a telegram was received at this office ordering the notices to be turned over to the call for publication he had evidently gone after the business was that honest business 7 in another part of his drool inga ings he says baya the call stand for the ideal in education religious and professional life it enda endeavors vors to be the handmaid of progress and enlightenment I 1 I 1 was that its object when its editor acted as the go between foran for an alleged criminal and the woman and child who were de deserted seated the call man is aft after erthe the patronage which he dreams will come from fulsome praise of the present county officials how does he take td the idra that anew a new paper will be here as tho the republican offic ilg vas agan during this cam campagino rumor r aas it that one of the prominent officials has been in salt lake city recently arranging with the western New newspaper paper union for printing a campaign paper that a 1 worthy way to support home industries the politicians could have bought space in home papers but that would be contrary to their past policy to assist home institutions tut ions Is thit the kind of patronage the call is clamoring for the call was awarded the printing of the proposed amendments to the state constitution the knowledge of the existence of which he gained dishonestly and we want to ask how bow many citizens of the county have seen these amendments it was as the intention of the legislature to have those amendments placed before the people the call has about subscribers and if that will reach the voters in this section of the country IN we e want to know how it will do it |
