| Show PROGRESS ON RESERVOIR land board negotiates with railroad Is now considering two sets of plans for monster irrigation project hon H N hayes wis in richfield at the beginning of this week and spoke reassuringly ly of the work of the state land boa baird on the proposed piute diute reservoir project that body is now negotiating with the rio grande western railroad company with nith a MOW bew of bringing about the relinquishment by the company of whatever hat ever right it might have oer of nf the property in the reservoir site it is said that the company has a survey through two forty acre tracts of government land which v will ill be included in the re senoir the mattei of relinquishing the right of way is now lit baing ing considered by the railroad officials at denar and the lind board is dail expecting their reply there is no reason for anticipating any trouble from this source for it is thought that the railroad croaa will willingly negotiate with the board on the other hand if its action is and the board finds it impossible to arrive at an amicable settlement it will institute condemnation proceedings and take the usual steps in the matter at the request of the land board the state engineer has submitted some interesting information concerning the project the work of the field engineers has developed two alter alternate es with reference to the tha reservoir dam they inn olve the question as to whether it is preferable to limit the height of the dam to eighty eighth feet or to increase its capacity by making it ninety fet feat I 1 high A dam eighty feet high having a storage capacity of acre feet would serve acres of I lind ind on a basis bais of three acre feet capacity for each acre of land to be irrigated A dam ninety feet high having a storage capacity of acre feet would serve acres of land on a basis of three acre feet for each acre this reservoir would necessitate the construction of a ake east cast of junction approximately a mile in length and having a minimum height of fourteen feet the most fea sable route for diverting the water to the lands which the state seeks to arriag te could it is said be secured by enlarging the sevier valley canal from its present intake to a point just north of richfield from this point northward two approximate locations have been run and it remains to be determined v A hh of these is the more practicable from kuhfield field to fayette there is lying above the present irrigation canals a cotil quantity of approximately acres of land available for irrigation purposes this arci together with the 2600 acres asked for by the se several era canals of the sevier alley makes a total alca of oe 21 acres that maybe may be supplied by the piute diute storage reservoir besides the land mentioned there is about 8 acres of choice land south of 0 monroe which it is said could be irrigated with A ith the water pro prodded aided by the 90 f foot 0 ot dam if this land vi 11 not include ed it is thought that the SO foot dam will be large enough to supply water ifor for the hind north of richfield A few d ata ita on the dim dam are arc as follows ION a the storage capacity of the SO 80 foot dam would be 68 acre feet and the cost of t per acre foot would be 1 82 the maximum cost of the project including canal etc is estimated at approximately approximate 13 and the minimum cost the storage of the reservoir with 90 00 foot dam would be acre feet and the cost of storage per acre foot would be the max ma icum cost of the project with 90 foot dam canal etc is estimated at approximately and the minimum cost from these dita it would seem that the water right would i cot coat not to exceed 20 per acre when it is remembered that the cost of storage at hatchtown Hatch town is 4 per acre foot and that under the piute diute project it will be either 1 81 or 1 82 per acre foot the wisdom of the land board in making the present move will at once become apparent the table showing ing in a general way the ownership of land in ard sanpete counties is as follows state land sevier 1660 acres san acres homestead land sevier Sari sanpete pete desert entry 1000 university land sevier government land sevier 2360 sanpete total sevier sanpete |
