Show deer beer T hunters ri anxiously acx I 1 0 u sly await awa it e opening F 19 for F or successful hunt roads open weather ideal deer in good flesh most doe permits sold checking stations listed with plenty of deer good roads and the weather as pleasant as it now is we see no reason why deer hunters should not have a very pleasant and successful hunt said supervisor albert albertson of the fishlake fishlike Fish lake national forest in commenting on conditions for the hunting season which w aich opens next saturday october 19 and will extend to include october 29 due to extreme drouth during the summer months and to the overpopulation over population of deer on most of the ranges within the fishlake fishlike Fish lake national forest deer were in rather poor flesh condition during the spring and summer months but recently conditions have been materially teri ally changed mr albertson stated A general inspection of the forest with special attention to range and wildlife conditions was made during the period between september 9 and october 9 by assistant regional forester C E favre in charge of range management and orange A olsen in charge of wildlife management for the forest service in region four with headquarters in ogden mr albertson and the assistant supervisor robert H park who have headquarters in richfield and the rangers in charge of the eight range districts of the forest three weeks were spent making the inspection mr albertson reports that deer are plentiful on nearly all parts of the forest covered and that although the forage on most of the ranges has been grazed much closer this year than usual recent storms have added very materially in stimulating new growth and the condition of both the forage and game animals is very much improved over what it was before the storm most of the deer were found in the oak belt where they were feeding upon acorns which seem to be quite plentiful in the large oak areas and go to make up a great part of the diet of the deer at this season of the year mr albertson states that with few exceptions roads leading to the forest have been well maintained and are in good condition for the hunting traffic new roads are being constructed up willow creek canyon west of salina onto pioneer mountain and by way of monroe canyon onto the glenwood mountain which although not completed will be in condition so hunters can get over them with automobiles the glenwood cove mountain road extends to hunters flat the fishlake fishlike Fish lake drainage basin is the only area on the forest closed to hunting most of the authorized doe permits have been sold henry M weight in charge of the state fish and game department branch office established at the courthouse here to issue doe permits stated that he expects all permits will be sold by saturday wednesday afternoon there remained unused only of the 1200 permits authorized lor for cove mountain and only 32 of the allotted allot fed for plateau the units for which hermits are being sold from this office no permits will be sold at checking stations to save hunters undue inconvenience veni ence those who check in from theowest the west mountain may mav also check out at the stations on this side regardless of the fact that they procured their permits in beaver or millard county twenty forest service man men in addition to the regular wardens will be on patrol autv during the hunting season said mr weight and the aade department and for est cst service will operate checking stations n nt the fo lowing places elsinore EI the junction at evier bevier the red view road the ali ili aurora road th ohp willow creek road at the mouth and at the head bead of salina canyon nt at loss crek creak Sir aird glenwood Glen dood monroe 31 1 the east end of the r 1 loa L road th otter offer cre crook k kingston canyon junction and at kingston |
