Show ski ruins marked at fish lake cooperative efforts augment me nt chances chance s for winter sports at famed resort fishlake fishlike Fish lake may yet come into its own as a winter resort during the past two weeks construction st of three ski courses on the mountain overlooking fish lake from the west have been started with the forest service the richfield junior chamber ot of commerce the richfield lions club and local sportsmen cooperating in the project ro ito 0 the mot motivating motia bating ting powe powei s behind the work are ie L brt b rt cox fishlike fishlake Fish Fisli lake district forest ian danl cr r 1 ara anu t thac hac ha c k us aar of 1113 jt i hla alake re assort company who by bj heredity and experience knos and loves the old lake and I 1 s surroundings aggs as lew others do starting irom the farned famed an heart high on the hillside which I 1 in n autumn becomes a brilliant red the red aspen heart ski run lol iol lows a course that opens onto the sagebrush flat above the shou gaard tavern two other runs one on each side of the red aspen heart also open onto the same flat the three courses were laid out about two months ago by robert tucker recreation planner from the regional forest office at ogden construction of the runs is being supervised by the forest service to avoid damage to grass and low plants so that the landscape will not be marred for the summer tall brush and trees are being removed forest guards and volunteer workers have been employed at the task the courses will be 30 to 40 feet wide through the timber section and wider in other places place S they are about one half mile in length A survey reveals still other possibilities ties lor for ski runs near the lake one of which could begin at the end of the oil surfaced road west of the rock portal and open out below the drinking fountain in oak spring hollow east of koo sharem with a run of three or four miles easily reached by automobiles at each end another has already been designated the fire flat ski run extending down toward the lake the path of which is partly burned over the fire flat and the three courses now under construction are especially favored for early development because of their accessibility to facilities cili ties and accommodations at the resorts at the lake as well as the additional opportunity for skating with the support of the forest service and local interest gained it is believed the state road com misson wll make arrangements to keep the road to the lake open burng the winter in fact the cooperative attitude previously shown by the road commission in complying with requests to open the road gives boosters boasters bo for the project confidence that no difficulty will be encountered in this respect although interest in skiing has been growing in this section the past few years is the first year a preparedness program has been introduced so early in the season courses have been tried in other places but it begins to appear that the final scene of skiing will settle down around the grand old lake and give people in this section a winter resort they can be proud of and to which they can mv invite ite the tourist st |
